In true Kanye fashion, he took the opportunity to speak his mind. In doing so, ‘Ye expressed his sour sentiments towards the fashion industry for its lukewarm response to his attempts at becoming part a fashion tastemaker.
“It is very difficult to break perception,” West said. “Fashion had to be the hardest high school I ever entered. At least I had a big brother,” he said of Pharrell. Also, calling him his “style idol.”
Pharrell, then thanked many of fashion’s elite for inspiring him, and humbly said: “I’m not a style icon. I’m just inspired. And I’m OK with that.” He also took to Twitter to further thank the CFDA and West:
