#BBB NEWS| The King’s Speech: Reflections On Oba Akiolu’s Comment To Igbos By Ahmed Olayinka Sule, CFA

“On Saturday, if anyone of you, I swear in the name of God, goes against my wish that Ambode will be the next governor of Lagos State, the person is going to die inside this water." Ever since Oba Akiolu, the King of Lagos said the above words to leaders of the Igbo community, the incident has become one of the most talked about topic in Nigeria. Some people have called for the king to apologise to the Igbo people, others have threatened to take him to the International Criminal Court, and others have created various memes on social media, which mock the king. Some people are still in denial and refuse to admit that the king made such a comment, while others are supportive of the comments.

To get a better appreciation of the significance of the event, it is important to examine the incident from a holistic point of view rather than focusing solely on what the king said. In the next couple of pages, I will try to analyse the event from a multi-dimensional viewpoint by examining a) The Speech b) The King c) The Venue d) The Supporters e) The Target and f) The Others

Before I proceed, I know some members of my ethnic group may be outraged with what I have to say. I may be called an idiot or a bastard, however, if this is the cost for pointing out injustice, then I consider it a prize worth paying.

#BBB NEWS| Civil War: Danjuma Blames Ojukwu For Not Emulating Jonathan

A former Minister of Defence and Chairman of Victim Support Fund, Theophilus Danjuma, has blamed the leader of the defunct Biafra, the late Chukwuemeka Ojukwu, for the civil war, which resulted in the death of nearly a million Nigerians.

Danjuma said this on Wednesday after President Goodluck Jonathan paid him a private visit in his Asokoro, Abuja residence.

He argued that had the late Ojukwu conceded victory to the federal troops after the fall of Enugu during the civil war in the same manner President Jonathan accepted defeat after the March 28 presidential poll to Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) of the All Progressives Congress, the nation would have been saved “a full year of bloodshed.”

#BBB NEWS| Impeachment Notice On Fayose Valid – Falana

A Lagos-based lawyer, Mr. Femi Falana (SAN), has advised the Ekiti State governor, Ayo Fayose, to take the impeachment notice served on him by the 19 All Progressives Congress members of the state House of Assembly seriously, saying the notice is valid before the law.

Citing sections 91, 96 and 188 of the country’s constitution, Falana explained that what was required to serve an impeachment notice was one-third of the members of the assembly, noting that the 19 members that signed the notice were more than the one-third of the total legislators required by the constitution.

He added that the constitution did not also stipulate that the impeachment notice must be signed in the Assembly chamber.

“Once the governor receives the notice, it has to be taken seriously because impeachment is a serious matter in the Constitution. That is why I am advising the governor to take this matter very seriously. He should seek legal advice on this matter,”
Falana said.

Akiolu has been under fire since Monday when he reportedly threatened the Ndigbo in Lagos to either vote for the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, or perish in the lagoon.

The Peoples Democratic Party on Tuesday asked Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola to suspend Akiolu forthwith.

#BBB NEWS| Akinolu Can’t Speak For APC – Tinubu

Also speaking, a former Governor of Lagos State, Bola Tinubu, said Akiolu was not a member of the APC and could not speak on behalf of the party.

Tinubu, who noted that he was the first Yoruba governor to ever appoint an Igbo commissioner, said the Peoples Democratic Party, having failed to win last week’s presidential elections, had been desperately trying to pull the APC into the Akiolu controversy.

He said the coordinator of the Transformation Ambassadors of Nigeria, Ifeanyi Ubah, and the PDP leader, Bode George, were only making baseless accusations against the APC.

Tinubu said, “The Oba is not a politician. His job is to accommodate all political parties whether PDP, APC or SDP. So, what did he (Ubah) go and do at the palace? Is the Oba a politician?

Mr. Akiolu had told a gathering which had the Eze Ndi-Igbos (Igbo traditional rulers) of all the local government areas in Lagos State that they should cast their votes for his chosen governorship candidate or “perish inside the lagoon”.

The Oba supports the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Akinwunmi Ambode.

#BBB NEWS| A Vote For Jimmy Agbaje As Governor Of Lagos State Advances The Plan To Make Lagos A “No Man’s Land” By Dr. Wumi Akintide

Yoruba “Lagosians” must call a spade a spade and stop next Saturday with their votes. I will continue to stress that Democracy does not achieve its ultimate goal under a one party dictatorship however benevolent.  If the newly- elected APC Government does not deliver what it promises Nigerians by 2019, I would be leading the effort to have it replaced with the new political coalition some Igbos  are already suggesting as a better alternative or antidote to the new opposition APC that has given the Igbo and the Ijaw-dominated PDP a black eye in Nigeria with their historic victory last Saturday.

They now argue in desperation for the South/South, the Middle Belt and the Southeast to come together to take back the Federal Government away from the Hausa/Fulani/Yoruba gang-up before Buhari and Osinbajo’s inauguration. Can you believe that?  I wish them luck in their new venture but I want to tell them loud and clear with this article that the Yorubas are not ready to surrender the freedom, power and leverage that God and Nigerians have just delivered  to the Yorubas to play a more dominant role at the federal level  in more than 50 years.

#BBB NEWS| Lagos Mustn’t Be Governed By Federal Ruling Party – Jimi Agbaje

The Lagos gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Jimi Agbaje, has criticized the Lagos All Progressive Congress (APC) and its gubernatorial candidate, Akinwumi Ambode, for pushing the idea that Lagos needs to be governed by a federal ruling party, to ensure the state is denied of funds.

Both the Lagos APC and the Akinwumi Ambode Campaign organisation had campaigned that an APC-led federal and state government will birth faster development in the state while also pitting the Igbos – who are backing the PDP candidate in Lagos against Yorubas.

Reacting to the assumption that Lagos would be deprived of funds if PDP wins, Mr. Agbaje, in a statement published on his Facebook, accused the APC of doublespeak.

He pointed that the President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, in his speech last week promised to run an all-encompassing government.

#BBB NEWS| Reaction To The Oba of Lagos And A Call On The PDP Faithful - Femi Fani-Kayode

The Oba of Lagos' threat against the igbos in Lagos that if they do not vote for the APC in the governorship elections on saturday they should be ''ready for the consequences'' and that if they don't vote for Ambode they should be ready to ''perish inside the lagoon'' is ominous and unacceptable.

The truth is that we were threatened with ethnic cleansing and religious carnage in the north had Buhari not won the presidential election on March 28th and had President Jonathan not quickly conceded defeat. We let that go and kept the peace but now our traditional supporters are being threatened in Lagos and in many other states as we approach the April 11th governorship elections.

Let two things be clearly understood. In as much as we all want peace in this country and in as much as Jonathan has graciously and quickly conceded defeat in the Presidential election, this does not mean that we are weak or powerless.

#BBB NEWS| Why Jonathan Lost To Buhari – Lamido Sanusi

Former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria and the current Emir of Kano, Lamido Sanusi, says President Goodluck Jonathan lost because of the mood of voters which was determined by the economic conditions and level of poverty across the country.

Sanusi, who is now known as Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II, said this during an interview with our correspondent on Saturday.

He said the voting showed that areas which had a high rate of poverty felt neglected by the Peoples Democratic Party-led Federal Government over the years.

Sanusi said the presidential poll results showed that the figures of the PDP in presidential elections from 1999 had continued to dwindle significantly.

The monarch said the PDP got fewer votes in 2007, less in 2011 and then fewer votes in 2015 causing the ruling party to finally lose to the opposition party, the All Progressives Congress.

#BBB NEWS| Kanye West Bible’s ‘Book Of Yeezus’ Are Up For Sale [PHOTOS]

The worshipping of Kanye West has now been turned into a tangible version of the rapper’s own “bible,” and is up for sale.

Replacing every mention of God’s name in the book of Genesis with that of Mr. West, this $20 publication, The Book of Yeezus is up for grabs on Etsy. In an attempt to make a version of the Bible that appeals to “modern society,” the new book is handmade, made-to-order and was inspired by the question, “What if?”

In an excerpt from the Book of Yeezus Etsy page, its creators explain their (slightly ridiculous, borderline offensive) creation:

What if the Bible, the most singularly significant publication in the ancient canon of Western tradition, were updated to reflect our modern society? What would it look like? What we came up with was an interventionist art, coffee-table novelty, that will appeal to both Kanye fans everywhere and those made curious by this enormous cultural phenomenon.
