Marvin Gaye III alleges that he submitted a treatment about a black family in the music business to the Writers Guild of America back in 2010. Titled Diamonds & Ballads, Gaye’s idea – based on the story of Motown exec Berry Gordy – was reportedly a derivation of 1980s television series Dynasty and HBO classic, The Sopranos.
In an effort to prove guilt on the part of Empire co-creator Lee Daniels, Gaye referenced a previous comment made by Daniels in which he likens the Fox hit to Dynasty.
