Nigeria’s Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, has stated that the Muhammadu Buhari Presidency would not be deterred in its determination to rid the country of corruption, dismissing pressures on the government from some Nigerian elites “to slow down the ongoing fight against graft.”

A statement released today by the VP’s spokesman, Laolu Akande, quoted Mr. Osinbajo, a former professor of law, as telling a delegation of the Moslem Congress of Nigeria that the government received “regular messages from some Nigerian elites saying cool down.”

The VP told the delegation that those Nigerians advocating a brake on the fight against corruption have “a very strange morality,” adding that those championing a halt to the government’s anti-corruption fight cut “across all tribes and religious differences.” Mr. Osinbajo noted, however, that the Nigerian masses had a clearer understanding of right and wrong, and were fully behind the anti-corruption crusade.

Speaking on behalf of the President, Osinbajo called on Nigerians to build on things that unite rather than divide the country in spite of diverse cultures and religions.

Vice President Osinbajo stressed the need to strengthen the relevant anti-corruption institutions in order to accomplish these goals The Vice President expressed his appreciation for the conference’s organizers, and promised that any recommendations made at the conference would be forwarded President Buhari himself.

Vice President Osinbajo then laid out the three primary goals of the Buhari Administration as the improvement of security, fighting corruption, and growing the economy.

Aside from the Vice President, and his staff, the conference was also attended by several noted academics. The presence of these educators did not escape the Vice President Osinbajo’s attention, who noted that education was crucial to building minds and the nation as whole.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on Thursday recalled how he joined other leaders of the Economic Community of West African States to facilitate quick restoration of civilian rule in Burkina Faso, a day after President Muhammadu Buhari hosted an Extraordinary session of ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Governments in Abuja.

A decision was taken at the summit to ensure the termination of last week’s military coup in the West African nation.

According to a statement by his spokesman, Mr. Laolu Akande, the Vice President, who represented Buhari in Ouagadougou, said the leaders were in the country’s capital to convey the recommendations agreed by ECOWAS leaders in Abuja.

He expressed delight that the intervention had led to the reinstatement of Mr. Michel Kafando as the country’s transition President.

Akande quoted the Vice President as telling journalists that the restoration of civilian authority in Burkina Faso after last week’s military coup was a good sign and positive thing for the region.

Details of President Muhammadu Buhari's were made public on Thursday after he submitted documentation to the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB).

In a statement issued on Thursday, spokesman Garba Shehu noted that the president's assets, valued at less than N30 million at the time of his inauguration on May 29, reflected his "austere and Spartan lifestyle," especially as a former Head of State.

His money was held in a single bank account and he had no registered company or foreign accounts to his name.

"In addition to the homes in Daura, he has farms, an orchard and a ranch. The total number of his holdings in the farm include 270 heads of cattle, 25 sheep, five horses, a variety of birds and a number of economic trees," the statement said.

President Buhari also had shares in Berger Paints, Union Bank and Skye Bank.

According to the Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), the newly inaugurated Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari will earn a monthly salary of N3, 514, 705.

The role of the RMAFC, empowered by Part 1 of the Third Schedule of the Constitution, is to outline the salary earnings appropriate for individuals who hold political offices.

Altogether, President Buhari will take home N1,171,568.33 every month, and N14,058,820 yearly for salary.

Buhari is also eligible for a regular hardship allowance, 50 percent of the basic salary, N1,757,350.5.

The government pays for the provision of car fuel, personal assistance, domestic staff, and utilities for President Buhari.

President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo have declared their assets to the Code of Conduct Bureau  as required by the Constitution.

The head of Buhari’s media team, Garba Shehu, in a statement on Saturday, said the President and Vice President submitted their assets declaration forms separately on Thursday.

Shehu added that the CCB, through its Chairman, Sam Saba, on Friday acknowledged the receipt of the forms.

He said  Buhari’s declarant identity was given as: President: 000001/2015.

Shehu however did not disclose the contents of the assets declaration forms.

“By declaring their assets, President Buhari and Vice President Osinbajo may have not only fulfilled the requirements of the Nigerian Constitution, but also fulfilled the first of their many campaign promises.
