There are only 12 days left in Barack Obama’s presidency, and it is giving so many Americans an overwhelming amount of ‘feels.’ But instead of tweeting about it or sobbing in a corner as some of us have done, T.I. channeled his grief into an open letter, thanking President Obama for his service throughout his two terms in the White House. Say what you want about T.I.’s use of SAT vocabulary words, but you have to admit, the man is pretty eloquent.

“As I reflect, I am filled with gratitude, outrage, grief, anger, humility and appreciation, both for the things you helped bring to light and the many things we still have yet to realize,” T.I. began in the letter that was originally published by The New York Times.

The Us or Else rapper also expressed his appreciation for what the Obama administration has done for the country. “For years, many of US failed you because, as I’ve said before, we were not all ready for the change you wanted to bring about,” he continued. “But rest assured that we heard you. Rest assured that we felt you and rest assured that your legacy will live on long after your presidency. Not only did you impact a nation, but you defined a culture and you shook up and woke up a generation.” T.I. then thanked the president for addressing issues of hatred, bigotry, and inequality throughout his terms as well, noting specific movements such The Black Live Matter.

In some days, a political passing of the baton will commence when President-elect Donald Trump takes office, and while the country is still divided over Trump’s election, Barack Obama has now entered the portion of his presidency where he can be reflective.

On New Year’s Day (Jan. 1), POTUS took to his Twitter account to highlight all of his achievements during his eight years in office. Graciously, he also credited the country’s successes to the American people.

In one of his last tweets as president, Barack Obama summarized all of the good that’s taken place since he became Commander-In-Chief.

According to a gallop poll, the open-ended question was posed to Americans from Dec. 7 through Dec. 11 and Obama earned 22 % of the vote, while president-elect Donald Trump earned 15 % however, the seven percent difference is the most narrow of victories for Obama.

Normally when asked, citizens bestow the honor to the sitting president except for those rare moments when the Commander-In-Chief is unpopular.

CNN reports Tump’s most questionable name on the Vegas list is Malik Obama, the older half-brother of President Barack Obama. Malik, who is Kenyan born, expressed interest in Trump back in July with an official endorsement. “He talks from the heart, and what he says makes sense, he’s not a phony, and I can’t stand phonies,” Malik said to “radical” journalist Charles C. Johnson. “If people are going to come here and blow up the country, then you’ve got to stop it,” he added about refugees.

There’s another must-watch film hitting Netflix. Following a great reception at this year’s Toronto Film Festival, the streaming service has picked up Barry, a biopic chronicling President Barack Obama’s college years.

According to Deadline, the movie/TV streaming service bought out every other service or distributor with a reported $4.5 million bidding price tag. The Vikram Gandhi-directed film is set in the early 1980s and depicts a 20-year-old Barack (played by Devon Terrell) who recently transferred to Columbia University in New York City.

Obama’s collegiate journey was a significant time because it was when the future POTUS realized the roles that race and privilege played in education and society in general. Devon Terrell will star as Barry alongside Straight Outta Compton’s Jason Mitchell, as well as Ella Coltrane, and Ashley Judd.

President Barack Obama took the stage to speak in Philadelphia, Penn., last night (July 27), headlining the third night of the Democratic National Convention, passing the baton to Hillary Clinton, as potentially the next President of The United States.

The skilled orator began his address that he was up until 3 a.m Tuesday rewriting, calling back to his popular 2004 DNC speech that helped begin his rise to becoming the future president.

The 54-year-old spoke about his health care reform plan, the economic comeback after the recession, killing of Osama bin Laden, and legalization of gay marriage as some of his many accomplishments during his eight years in office.

“There has never been a man or a woman, not me, not Bill, not anybody more qualified than Hillary Clinton to serve as president of the United States of America” said Obama.

Just when you thought you couldn’t love the First Family more, they continue to show their resilience and intellect in the best way possible. President Barack Obama spoke about the effects of body shaming with Misty Copeland during their TIME interview last week.

In addition to tackling the subject of race and self-awareness in their respected fields, body shaming rose to the forefront after Copeland explained how she was ridiculed for her athletic and “larger” physique.

The president was surprised by her story, admitting that African-American women experience a high amount of body image struggles from their youth to adulthood. “When you’re a dad of two daughters, you notice more,” he said. “And that pressure I think is historically always been harder on African American women than just about any other women.”

Visiting the Islamic Society of Baltimore, Obama, in a not-so-veiled attempt, criticized Donald Trump’s campaign rhetoric, which includes conducting surveillance on mosques and banning Muslims from entering into the country, and he also fervidly denounced the threat against America-Muslims last year following the attacks in San Bernardino, Calif.

In an effort to expand his criminal justice reform, President Barack Obama announced a ban on juveniles in federal prison placed in solitary confinement.

In an op-ed that will appear in The Washington Post  on Tuesday (January 26)  Barack Obama says the common practice has devastating and psychological effects.

The president also outlined further actions that prohibit federal correction officials from punishing prisoners who commit “low-level” infractions with solitary confinement. While Obama’s reform applies broadly to the 10,000 federal inmates in solitary, only a handful of juveniles, 13 to be exact from September 2014 to September 2015, have been placed in confinement.

“How can we subject prisoners to unnecessary solitary confinement, knowing its effects, and then expect them to return to our communities as whole people?” the president wrote. “It doesn’t make us safer. It’s an affront to our common humanity.”

In an attempt to work around Congress’ divisive halt on the matter, Obama is seeking to widen criminal background checks on gun buyers, hire more personnel to conduct the background checks, and generate better tracking of lost firearms, The New York Times reports. Highlight America as the advanced country with the most mass violence, Obama urged everyone to fight for action

“We are the only advanced country on Earth that sees this kind of mass violence erupt with this kind of frequency,” Obama said in his speech. “It doesn’t happen in other advanced countries. It’s not even close.”

Obama also turned emotional when discussing the horrific 2012 shooting of 20 children at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut. Referencing an event that he admitted still plagues him till this day and regarded as the worst moment in his presidency in an interview with GQ,  the President wiped away tears as he continued to mourn the loss of the first graders killed that day.

Adewale Adeyemo, a 34-year-old first-generation Nigerian-American, was appointed to the position of Deputy National Security Advisor for International Economics by President Barack Obama.

President Obama announced Mr. Adeyemo’s appointment on Tuesday to the Washington DC press. The appointment has been met with wide acclaim by Nigerians throughout the diaspora.

Baba Adam, a leader of the Nigerian community and college administrator, commended President Obama for appointing Mr. Adeyemo describing it as “ascension of inspiration”.

During his confirmation hearing in September, Mr. Adeyemo made reference to his father waking him up in 1990 to witness the release of South African freedom fighter Nelson Mandela from a 27-year long prison term.

Mrs. Obama, who is not shy about her love of pop culture staples such as Empire, revealed that Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars’ hit “Uptown Funk” was in heavy rotation for her in 2015. She also said the animated film Inside Out was her favorite film, Black-ish was her favorite show and Elizabeth Alexander’s memoir, The Light of the World, was her favorite read.

In an effort to reduce the new cases of HIV infections among young African women in 10 sub-Saharan nations hit hardest by the virus, the Obama administration has announced a $300 million program to combat the problem.

Administration officials are aiming for a 25% infection decrease by the end of this year, and a 40% decrease by the end of 2017.

“No greater action is needed right now than empowering adolescent girls and young women to defeat HIV/AIDS,” says Susan Rice, National Security Adviser.

This new program marks the next phrase of the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief, also known as PEPFAR.

United States Vice President Joe Biden’s son, Joseph R. Biden III, died at the age of 46 following his battle with brain cancer, the New York Times reports.

News broke evening (May 30) that the former attorney general of Delaware, affectionately known as Beau, passed away, who also suffered a minor stroke in 2010. In previous years, doctors at the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas “removed a small lesion from his brain.” Reports also state that the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center treated Biden for over a week.

A statement by the Vice President was released following the saddening news, reading “Beau’s life was defined by service to others.”
