#BBB NEWS| El Chapo Has Been Extradited To U.S. - Mexican Government

Mexican government officials have announced Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzman has been extradited to the United States for six separate indictments throughout the country.

The news was confirmed Thursday (Jan. 19) by a spokesperson for the Mexican attorney general and the U.S. Department of Justice, ABC News reports. El Chapo was seen at the Ciudad Juarez airport, although it hasn’t been reported where in the U.S. he will land. As the leader of the Sinaloa Cartel, El Chapo is facing drug charges in California and Texas.

In May, the U.S. claimed Guzman would not face the death penalty, with a Mexican judge pausing the process in June over concerns about El Chapo’s “physical integrity.” The extradition was later approved.

#BBB NEWS| According To His Daughter, El Chapo Entered The U.S Twice To Visit His Family

On top of his Hollywood plans for a biopic, El Chapo made sure to keep in contact with his children living in the United States during his prison escape.

In an interview with The Guardian, his daughter Rosa Isela Guzmán Ortiz says her father traveled to California twice while on the run from Mexican authorities.

Shortly after his infamous interview with Sean Penn in Mexico, the kingpin paid a visit to Guzmán Ortiz and other relatives to ensure their safety. She also provided documents to The Guardian confirming her identity as El Chapo’s daughter.

She was reportedly granted permission from her father to speak to the media.

“My dad deposited the money in a bank account with a lawyer and a while after he came to see the house, his house. He came twice,” she said. She fended off questions on exactly how the 58-year-old evaded the heavily guarded border. “I asked him the same, believe me.”

According to Mexico Attorney General Arely Gomez, El Chapo was in the process of organizing his own biopic at the time of his capture. He was reaching out to actors and producers to get the film in motion, and it ultimately led to his arrest, NBC News reports.

Gomez said at a press conference that an “important element in determining Chapo’s whereabouts was finding out that he wanted to film an autobiographical film.”
