#BBB NEWS| Nigerian Army Officers Ordered To Declare Assets

Nigeria's Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Yusuf Buratai, has asked all officers of the Nigerian Army who have not declared their assets to do so immediately.

A statement released today by military spokesman, Colonel Sani Kukasheka Usman, revealed that General Buratai "gave the directive today during a conference with Principal Staff Officers and Directors serving at the Army Headquarters."

The Nigerian Armed Forces have been in the spotlight after an audit ordered by President Muhammadu Buhari found that numerous retired and serving military officers may have colluded in billions of dollars worth of weapons procurement deals. Mr. Buhari asked the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to commence investigation of the officers. 

Colonel Usman's statement disclosed that the Chief of Army Staff had declared his own assets shortly after his "appointment as Commander, Multinational Joint Task Force in May 2015 and also on his appointment as Chief of Army Staff in July 2015." He revealed that copies of both declarations were with the Code of Conduct Bureau.

A military spokesman, Colonel Tukur Ismail Gusau, has denied a media report that Boko Haram insurgents overran troops in Guzamala, Borno State.

The report had also claimed that the Islamist fighters killed several soldiers, adding that some soldiers, including the commanding officer of the military unit, could not be accounted for.

In a statement, Colonel Gusau stated that it was untrue that Boko Haram terrorists ransacked soldiers of the 157 Task Force Battalion in Guzamala. He also dismissed the report that the troops lost equipment to the terrorists.

He declared the report as “a fabrication from the imagination of those sympathetic to Boko Haram ways of life.”

The Nigerian military today reaffirmed determination to rescue hundreds of captives, including more than 200 Chibok schoolgirls, being held by insurgent fighters belonging to Islamist group, Boko Haram.

The acting Director of Defense Information, Colonel Rabe Abubakar,  expressed this determination in a statement in response to recent media reports on the fate of the Chibok schoolgirls and other captives.

"The Nigerian military and other security agencies are working round the clock to secure the release of not only the Chibok girls but other innocent citizens who are held hostage by the terrorists," the military spokesman said.

He added, "The military, being a component of the society, is equally worried and is doing everything possible to address the current security challenges. The search for abducted Chibok school girls and the rescue of other Nigerians in hostage has never relapsed as could be attested to in recent times where hundreds of women and children were rescued by the military through its coordinated operations.

The Nigerian Army on Sunday released pictures of successes over the dreaded Boko Haram sect in Dikwa area of Borno State.

The spokesman of the Nigerian Army, Col. Sani Kukasheka Usman, said in a terse statement that the Army is working assiduously in containing the sect, but warned that the pictures are graphic.

The pictures contain destroyed, bomb-laden cars; solar devices the sect used to power their gadgets; and other weapons captured or destroyed via both land and air strikes.

“Please recall that we promised to provide photographs and further details of the ongoing Operation LAFIYA DOLE leading to the capture of Dikwa from the terrorists," Usman said. "Attached here are some photographs of destroyed IED laden vehicle, as well as captured weapons, primed IEDS and of course bodies of some of the terrorists.

#BBB NEWS| 350 Boko Haram Suspects Face Trial, Respond to Amnesty International - Nigerian Army

The Nigerian Army Chief of Administration, Adamu Abubakar, in a press briefing on Friday has said that 350 suspected Boko Haram terrorists have been recommended for trial at a Federal Court. The trial would be centered on the terrorist activities they are suspected of in the Northeastern part of Nigeria.

The 350 Boko Haram suspects recommended for trial are only a fraction of the 504 persons currently in detention.

The Army Chief, Abubakar, said that two Joint Investigation Teams have been set up by the defense headquarters to investigate, screen, and categorize suspected insurgents in detention.  The files on the suspects were then forwarded to the office of the Attorney General and the Ministry of Justice for further review.

In a daring and precise operation the Nigerian troops have stormed the Sambisa Forest and rescued about 300 women and girls. 

The PRNigeria gathered that at least three major terrorists camps have been destroyed in the well-cordinated attacks that include the destruction of the notorious Tokumbere camp in the Sambisa Forest.

While confirming the operation the Director Defence Information, Major General Chris Olukolade said he could not confirm the identity of the freed victims and their origins and he could not state if any of them was from Chibok until after thorough screening and proper investigations.
