Rita Ora is ready to cut her ties with Roc Nation, and did so Thursday (December 17) by filing a lawsuit in which she claims to have been “orphaned” due to the label’s other business endeavors.According to
reports, the 25 year old singer-songwriter is seeking a declaratory judgment stating the contract she originally signed when she was 18 violates California law and cannot be enforced.
“When Rita signed, Roc Nation and its senior executives were very involved with her as an artist,” states the complaint which was filed in a L.A. Superior Court. “As Roc Nation’s interests diversified, there were fewer resources available, and the company suffered a revolving door of executives. Rita’s remaining supporters at the label left or moved on to other activities, to the point where she no longer had a relationship with anyone at the company.”
The lawsuit names Jay Z’s streaming service Tidal along with other pursuits as the cause for the lack of attention towards Ora’s career, and states a recent distribution deal with Universal that Ora claims to have been left out of.
