Spike Lee has has had enough from the Chi-Raq naysayers, and went on Sway In The Morning to silence those who think the film is making a mockery of the gang associated deaths on the city’s South Side.

“This is Chicago’s Do The Right Thing” the prolific film director said.

The film, which stars Samuel L. Jackson, Jennifer Hudson, LaLa Anthony and Angela Basset, centers around the women of the community agreeing to withhold sex from their gang-member boyfriends in hopes to stop the bloodshed.

When asked by Shade 45 co-host Tracy G if the women’s role in the film was sexist, Lee then turned the tables on critics.

Legendary film director Spike Lee was given an honorary Oscar at the seventh annual Governors Awards dinner on Saturday (Nov. 14).

Lee was presented the honor by Denzel Washington, Samuel L. Jackson and Wesley Snipes, who have starred in a number of his classic films, including Malcolm X, Do The Right Thing and Jungle Fever.

Taking the stage to receive the coveted gold statue, Lee used the opportunity to call out Hollywood on its lack of diversity, E! News reports. Remarking that it is easier for a black person to become the President of the United States than the head of a film studio, Lee called for the industry to take action in a moving speech.

Lee also referenced the ever-growing population of people of color in America, and urged Hollywood to have that reflected:

A month before his new film is set to hit theaters, Spike Lee released the trailer for his new film, Chi-Raq. The film is centered around gang violence in Chicago based on the Greek play Lysistrata.

The film stars Teyonah Paris, Samuel L. Jackson, John Cusack, Jennifer Hudson, Wesley Snipes, Angela Bassett and a gangsta-fied Nick Cannon.

Twitter has been abuzz all day with mixed reactions of the film.

Spike Lee is setting his lens on Chi-town for his next movie. According to The Wrap, the iconic filmmaker will direct a reel titled “Chiraq” which reportedly selected Kanye West, Common, Samuel L. Jackson, and Jeremy Piven to appear in the film.

Given the title of the motion picture, it might focus on the gun violence that continues to plague the Windy City and garnered worldwide attention with its staggering death tolls.

Although it’s unclear what the synopsis will be or when it’ll debut, it’ll surely be pivotal for the culture. The Oscar-nominated director also inked a deal with Amazon Studios as the film’s distributor.
