Nickel McLean from Richmond Hill returned home Sunday (April 19) and got into a heated argument with his step-father, 50 year old David Hightower about washing dishes, Pix11.com reports.
McLean told investigators Hightower threatened to hit him, and then the confrontation escalated. McLean then grabbed a knife and stabbed Hightower multiple times including in the chest, arm and stomach.
Hightower later died from his injuries.
“The defendant is accused of taking the life of his step-father following a confrontation over washing the dishes,” Queens District Attorney Richard Brown said. “A life has been brutally taken and a young man, who could have had a promising future before him, is now facing the possibility of spending the rest of his life in prison.”
McLean is being held on $500,000 bail and scheduled to appear in court May 4. If convicted of second-degree murder, the 19 year old will spend 25 years behind bars.
