The reason why possibly lies in recent tweets by the artist, where he quoted The Daily Beast’s article on Taylor Swift’s war with Apple. The story compares Swift to Prince and his fight with Warner Brothers in 1993.
Prince later retweeted The Daily Beast and highlighted a few quotes for his followers.
The award-winning musician also included a quote about Spotify in his tweets. But today (July 2), the page on the service where his discography once covered reads, “Prince’s publisher has asked all streaming services to remove his catalog. We have cooperated with the request, and hope to bring his music back as soon as possible.”’
Fans, take note. Playlists on Spotify skip over the spot meant for Prince & the Revolution. Vevo only hosts the “Breakfast Can Wait” video, and Apple Music has never streamed his music, TechCrunch reports.
Google Play Music also told TechCrunch that they have not been asked to remove anything so Prince’s songs remain for the time being. Prince Radio on Pandora is still available, and tracks by different artists featuring him exist as before.
