Nigeria’s President-elect, General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) and Vice- President-elect, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, were among the dignitaries who attended the wedding ceremony of Governor Adams Oshiomhole as he wedded his new bride, Lara Forte, on Friday in Edo State.

Governor Oshiomhole married former Miss Forte, five years after losing his former wife, Clara, to a cancer-related ailment.

The new couple proceeded to a hall within the governor’s residence after completing documentation at a marriage registry.

Although the nationality of the new First Lady of the state has not been made official, sources said she hails from Cape Verde and was a former air hostess with an East African airline.

Also present at the ceremony which held at the Governor’s residence were the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun; former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon; the Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal; former Governor of Kwara State, Senator Bukola Saraki; and others.

For allegedly helping their father plunder Nigeria of an estimated $5 billion in the 1990s, Mohammed and Abba Abacha, and other relatives of the late dictator, Sani Abacha, have been rewarded by the Nigerian government.

A secret deal between the government and the Abachas, wants the family to return part of the loot, in exchange for perpetual immunity against prosecution.

The deal, kept classified for months, was personally approved by President Goodluck Jonathan in July 2014, and jointly authored by the Attorney General, Mohammed Adoke.

The terms of the agreement, obtained by PREMIUM TIMES in March, have alarmed anti-corruption activists.

“The agreement is (also) a tragic triumph of impunity,” said The Berne Declaration, a Swiss nongovernmental organization, which for years has monitored efforts by the Nigerian government to recover hundreds of millions of dollars stashed by the former military ruler, and his family, in bank accounts across Europe, and America.

Edo State Governor, Adam Oshiomhole has married his Cape Verdean Iara Forte, five years after he lost his wife, Clara.

The wedding was solemnised Friday at the marriage registry of Auchi Etsako West Local government Council of Edo state.

A reception ceremony was later held at the governor’s Iyamho country home.

Iara Forte, a Cape Verde national, and former air hostess at Emirate Airlines, is in her early thirties, aides of the governor say.

Mario Balotelli has been fined £800 and banned from driving for 28 days after he was caught doing speeds of 109mph in his Ferrari.

The Liverpool striker was due to attend Wirral Magistrates court today, having been convicted in his absence last week.

The 24-year-old Italian did not appear though, with his solicitor Mike Hogan telling magistrates he had not received the summons.

And the first Balotelli knew of his court date was when he received an adjournment notice. Balotelli was pulled over by police shortly after midnight on December 3, last year on the M62 at Tarbock Island, Merseyside.

He had been driving his high performance left-hand drive Ferrari. The court heard that super-car's speedometer is calibrated in kilometres per hour - and he had not been aware that the speed had crept up so much.

The world's most tattooed female pensioner has died at the age of 77. Isobel Varley, from Stevenage, Hertfordshire, was a "legend" in the tattoo world after having 93 per cent of her body inked.

The retired secretary - who held the Guinness World Record as the most tattooed female pensioner - died on Monday after a battle with Alzheimer's disease.

Ms Varley had her first tattoo at the age of 49 but went on to cover herself in a further 200 artworks, spending 500 hours getting inked.

Speaking previously, the mother-of-one said: "Originally, I was only ever going to have one - a small bird - but I fell in love with it, and developed an addiction.

"The only areas not completely tattooed is my face, the soles of my feet my ears and some area on my hands."

A former military head of state, Gen. Yakubu Gowon, says the leader of the defunct Biafra, the late Chukwuemeka Ojukwu, underestimated him by thinking that he (Gowon) would never go to war.

Gowon, who led Nigerian forces to defeat Ojukwu’s army during the Nigerian civil war from 1967-1970, said this at the Diamond Jubilee Lecture of the Foursquare Gospel Church in Nigeria in Lagos on Thursday.

The former head of state said he was known to be a ‘Born Again’ Christian and Ojukwu, who was the then premier of the Eastern Region, thought his region could secede from Nigeria without consequences because he thought Gowon would not want to go to war.

He said, “During the crisis, my colleague and brother, Emeka Ojukwu, said, ‘We know Gen. Gowon, he is a Christian and he would not like to fight. Do you know the first thing he puts in his suitcase? His Bible; and that will make him not to engage in a fight’. I think unfortunately, he was proved wrong.

President-elect Muhammadu Buhari has accused the outgoing Goodluck Jonathan government of not giving him “tips” on how to kick-start his administration on May 29.

He spoke on Thursday when a committee from the   Centre for Human Security of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, presented a five-point policy document to him at the Buhari Support Organisation office in Abuja.

Hours before the event which held behind closed doors, the All Progressives Congress, insisted   that the Federal Government was not cooperating with the transition committee set up by the President-elect.

“Buhari regretted that the outgoing government that is supposed to give him tips on how to take off has done nothing so far,” Garba Shehu, the Director of Media and Publicity of the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Organisation, told journalists after the presentation by the committee.

Barely a week after his re-election as a member of the British parliament, Nigerian-born Chuka Umunna has decided to take his political clout to the highest level in the United Kingdom.

Umunna   formally declared his intention on Tuesday to become the next Labour Party leader, a position that could land him on 10 Downing Street as Britain’s Prime Minister, if he defeats four   other aspirants for the post and Labour wins the general election in 2020.

The other aspirants   are Liz Kendall, Yvette Cooper, Andy Burnham and Tristram Hunt.

Labour is expected to set out the timetable for the leadership election on Wednesday (today).

The 36-year-old Umunna, who is currently Labour’s shadow business secretary, is popularly referred to in the UK as Chuka Chucks and Britain’s Barack Obama.

The Nigerian-born Briton, in a video released   on   Facebook, said he could lead the party, which suffered a crunching defeat by the Conservative Party, back to power within five years.

The Nigerian Deposit Insurance Corporation, (NDIC), Liquidator of Gulf bank Nigeria Plc in a debt recovery suit before a Federal High Court in Lagos, against the Senior Special Assistant to President Goodluck Jonathan, Dr. Doyin Okupe and two others filed an application to place the suit on an undefended list.

Joined as Okupe’s co-defendants in the suit are an investment company, Value Trust Investment Limited, and a Director of the company Mr. Ray Ahazie.‬
NDIC is claiming Okupe, who is the chairman of the company and other defendants owe the sum of N34,168,064.51.‬ as outstanding balance of a loan they took from liquidated Gulf bank Plc.

NDIC is also claiming the interest on the said sum at the rate of 21 per cent per annum from May 2007, until the final liquidation of the said sum.‬

NDIC in its statement of claim filed before the court on the 10 July 2007 by its lawyer, Dr. I. Abiodun Layonu, stated that the defendants was granted a credit facility in October 2000, by Gulf Bank Plc, to finance the importation of 10,000 metric tones of rice for onward delivery to the Balyesa state government in the sum of N448, 000.00, vide an offer letter dated 27 October 2000, and that the terms and conditions of the offers and acceptance were later formalized in a memorandum of agreement duly signed and stamped by the bank and defendants.‬

Jay and Bey just paid  $2.6 million for a 22 room 13,292 square-foot home in New Orleans’ Garden District. The massive structure was built in 1925 as a church and has also been a ballet school.

The home features seven bedrooms, eight bathrooms and three additional 1000 square foot apartments.

No word on how much time the couple plan on spending in New Orleans, but Beyonce’s sister Solange is a part-time resident of the city and had her wedding there.

APC said, “Those who have played poker with the nation’s destiny must be willing and eager to clear their conscience before man and God.

“That the President-elect is a man of integrity is not an issue for debate, and he has made it clear that he will not be bogged down by endless probes.

“However, the hands of the incoming government will not be tied by those who have chosen to play the victim and exhibit a persecution mentality.

According to court documents maintained by TMZ, Hale–who currently plays football for the University of Washington–states that Calvin was responsible for the car accident, which ultimately caused the west coast’s rapper to suffer multiple strokes and eventually die.

In a recent interview with The Daily Beast, Freeman details how he was introduced to weed.

“My first wife got me into it many years ago,” he said. “How do I take it? However it comes! I’ll eat it, drink it, smoke it, snort it! This movement is really a long time coming, and it’s getting legs—longer legs. Now, the thrust is understanding that alcohol has no real medicinal use. Maybe if you have one drink it’ll quiet you down, but two or three and you’re fucked.”

Comparing the effects of marijuana to that of alcohol, Freeman called for the legalization of weed with anecdotes from Woodstock. He also noted the medicinal benefits as an argument for making it more available to the masses.

The Chadian President, Idris Deby, who earlier this year was quoted as saying he knew the whereabouts of wanted Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau, has backtracked on his claim while also insisting on keeping any possible knowledge of the location of the terrorist to himself.

“I cannot tell you today that I know where Shekau is hiding and even if I knew I won’t tell you,” Mr. Deby told journalists on Monday at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Mr. Deby spoke after a meeting with Nigeria’s President Goodluck Jonathan.

The Chadian President stated that the war against Boko Haram had not yet been totally won because Chad and Nigeria were not working together on the field.

He said it was regrettable that the “two armies that is the Nigerian army and the Chadian Army are working separately in the field”.

“They are not undertaking joint operation,” he said. “If they were operating joint operation probably they would have achieved more results.”

Jonathan who was accompanied by his wife, Patience, said considering what God had done in his life, he wished he could dance like the biblical King David but he kept missing his steps whenever he made attempts.
