#BBB NEWS| Refusal To Respect Single-Term Agreement Caused PDP’s Defeat – Babangida Aliyu

The Governor of Niger State, Dr. Babangida Aliyu, on Friday said the recent defeat of the People Democratic Party at both national and state elections did not come to Nigerians as a surprise because “we saw it coming.”

Aliyu, who spoke in Minna as a special guest of honour at a convocation lecture of the Federal University of Technology, Minna, argued that the refusal of the PDP to honour the “single-term agreement” led to the party’s heavy defeat at both the Presidential and governorship polls.

The lecture was titled ‘The role of Law in the enhancement of socio-economic growth of the nation’.

The governor said, “Many of us saw it coming. When I reminded us that we had an agreement for one term(that President Goodluck Jonathan had agreed to run for one term), they nearly crucified me. When I led the G7(group of seven aggrieved PDP governors), they did not do what we wanted them to do until five members left and they did what we asked them to do.”

#BBB NEWS| Julius Malema Insults President Zuma’s Family, Says The Government Promoted Violence

The opposition leader then reminisced about the days Cuban ex-pats educated him on the importance of understanding body language.

Mr. Malema’s diatribe continued on as he attacked members of President Zuma’s family. “Your own son continues to say these people must be killed...Your son is such a typical example of a family member you cannot whip in line.”

I still had it, but not where jail put me at. And before I went to jail, I was being a little wild. So you know, it slowed me down, gave me enough time to think.

#BBB NEWS| Abducted Women And Girls Forced To Join Boko Haram Attacks, Amnesty International Reports

At least 2,000 women and girls have been abducted by Boko Haram since the start of 2014 and many have been forced into sexual slavery and trained to fight, said Amnesty International on the first anniversary of the abduction of the Chibok school girls.

Based on nearly 200 witness accounts, including 28 with abducted women and girls who escaped captivity, a new 90-page report, 'Our job is to shoot, slaughter and kill': Boko Haram’s reign of terror, documents multiple war crimes and crimes against humanity committed by Boko Haram, including the killing of at least 5,500 civilians, as it rampaged across north-east Nigeria during 2014 and early 2015.

The Amnesty International report sheds new light on the brutal methods used by the armed group in north-east Nigeria where men and boys are regularly conscripted or systematically executed and young women and girls are abducted, imprisoned and in some cases raped, forcibly married and made to participate in armed attacks, sometimes on their own towns and villages.

#BBB NEWS| Nigeria Has Developed A New Political Maturity, And I'm Proud To Have Witnessed It In My Lifetime By Roland Digieneni

Today is a big day for Nigeria. It's the anniversary of the Boko Haram abductions, and the helter skelter of election season is coming to an end as the final results of the gubernatorial elections are announced. International media attention today is focussed on the Chibok girls, as well as the unfortunate flash-points, fracases and floggings that happened over the course of the last weeks.

But despite this, after being engaged in local politics for 35 years, I'm very happy, very proud with how democracy is progressing in Nigeria. I feel a healthy political maturity is being developed, with notably less violence than in previous elections. I wish to reflect on the salient lessons we've learnt from these elections.

Being on the losing side

The mood is not good in my community. 'Our man' Goodluck Jonathan did not win in the Presidentials. The APC have just cemented their victory in the gubernatorial elections. I hardly know a single person in my community who voted for Buhari's APC, so people are mourning a political defeat.

It’s been 12 months, 365 days, 52 weeks, 8,760 hours, 525,600 minutes and 31,536,000 seconds since the Chibok girls were abducted. On the night of 14–15 April 2014, the dastard Boko Haram sect members came like the thieves they are. They broke into Government Secondary School in the town of Chibok in Borno state. They were camouflaged as guards, urging the girls to get out and come with them. About 276 teenage girls were taken away in trucks, possibly into the Konduga area of the Sambisa Forest.

The school had been closed for a fortnight prior to the attack due to the deteriorating security situation, but students from the school had been called in to take final exams in physics. According to the police, approximately 276 girls were abducted, of which a total of about 57 had escaped. On 17 October 2014, hopes were raised that the 219 remaining girls might soon be released after the army announced a truce between Boko Haram and government forces. This announcement also coincided with the six-month anniversary of the girls' capture. Hopes were however dashed when it was discovered that the supposed truce had been a hoax.

#BBB NEWS| Supreme Court Affirms Ayo Fayose’s Victory

The Supreme Court on Tuesday affirmed Ayodele Fayose as the duly elected governor of Ekiti State in the June 21, 2014 election.

‎In a unanimous decision by the seven-man panel led by Justice John Fabiyi, the apex court upheld the earlier decisions of the Court of Appeal and the Ekiti State Governorship Election Tribunal, which had both earlier ruled that the petition challenging Fayose’s victory lacked merit.

The Independent National Electoral Commission had declared that Fayose of the Peoples Democratic Party polled 203,090 votes to defeat the then incumbent governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, of the All Progressives Congress who polled 120,433 votes‎ in the election.

Legend is also slated to visit a California state prison, as well as co-host a criminal justice event in Washington, D.C.
