#BBB NEWS| CBN Gas Explosion: Police Confirm 3 Dead, 10 In Critical Condition

The Cross River Police Command has confirmed three persons dead and 10 in critical condition due to Friday’s gas cylinder explosion at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) in Calabar.

Mr John Eluu, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), disclosed this on Saturday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

Eluu said 20 members of staff of the bank were injured in the explosion which occurred at about 11 a.m., while two others were in critical condition.

“As of yesterday, being Friday, 20 CBN staff members were injured and two were in critical condition immediately after the gas explosion.

Donald Trump’s recent national rallies have been met with various demonstrations in opposition to his policies. Additionally, Trump’s supporters have taken it upon themselves to enact physical assaults on certain protestors.

The incidents have prompted responses from fellow politicians, this time including Hilary Clinton. The former Secretary of State wrote on her Twitter account that anger should be put aside and “use our words and deeds to bring Americans together.”

Clinton also referenced the tragic shooting at Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal church in Charleston, South Carolina that left nine people dead last year. “The families of those victims came together and melted hearts in the statehouse and the confederate flag came down. That should be the model we strive for to overcome painful divisions in our country.”

Tran swiftly responded, stating that she’s 100 percent over the back and forth with her ex-boyfriend, and referenced his random shout out of her name on his “Back To Sleep” remix. “You’re calling me a bit*h yet you’re screaming my name in a song about getting back together?” she wrote in the comments section. “CAN ALL THIS PETTY SH*T STOP IT IS SO UNNECESSARY.”

Kim Kardashian is breaking the Internet after she posted another photo to her Instagram and Twitter accounts. The mommy of two shared a sweet image of her newborn son Saint West which stopped the masses in their social media tracks.

Quoting a lyric from Kanye West’s melody, “Father Stretch My Hands Pt. 1,” the reality star wrote the caption, “You’re the sun in my morning babe.”

Amber Rose and Kim Kardashian’s relationship has come a long way. Over the years the ladies had a few heated words for each other, but it looks like they’ve turned over a new leaf and are mending their possible friendship.

Recently, that became apparent when Rose defended Kim’s nude photo which sparked controversy from all corners of the Internet.

In response to Pink’s supposed jab at the reality star, Rose said, “We’re so quick to down each other instead of uplifting! Pink, We’ve seen u damn near naked swinging from a rope (Beautifully) but what’s the difference between a rope, a pole and a pic on Instagram? Classism.”

Troops belonging to the 113 Battalion of the Nigerian Army yesterday killed 40 insurgents and destroyed a terrorist camp run by members of the Islamist terrorist group, Boko Haram, at Alajeri village in Guzamala local government area of Borno State.

In a statement, Nigerian Army spokesman, Colonel Sani Kukasheka Usman, disclosed that the troops acted after receiving reliable information that Boko Haram terrorists were in the area

The statement disclosed that the troops also captured one General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG), one rocket-propelled grenade 7, six AK-47 rifles, two Fabrique Nationale rifles, 10 magazines, 188 rounds of 7.62mm (NATO) ammunition and 64 rounds of 7.62mm (special) ammunition. The soldiers also recovered three mobile phones, six copies of Holy Quran and 20 motorcycles.

Colonel Usman described the soldiers as being “in high spirit” following the attack, adding that the troops suffered no casualty or injury.

Boko Haram still holds territory in northern Nigeria, according to David Rodriguez, commander of the U.S. Africa Command (USAFRICOM).

Mr. Rodriguez’s statement, addressed to the U.S. Senate Armed Services Committee, contradicts President Buhari’s assertion that Boko Haram does not hold any territory. At an energy summit in the UAE, the Nigerian president stated that the Nigerian Armed Forces and Multinational Joint Task Force (MJTF) had driven the terrorist insurgents from Nigerian territory.

At the Senate hearing, U.S. Senator Angus King of Maine asked Mr. Rodriguez if Boko Haram was growing, but said he knew they no longer held territory in Nigeria.

The commander responded, “Actually sir, Boko Haram does hold some significant territory in northern Nigeria, as do Al-Shabaab in limited areas of Somalia.”

The “Electric Lady” Janelle Monáe will be starring alongside Empire’s Taraji P. Henson and Oscar winner Octavia Spencer in the Ted Melfi-directed film, Hidden Figures.

The film, scheduled for release in 2017, is based on an upcoming book written by Margot Lee Shetterly about African American women who helped launch America into space.

President Muhammadu Buhari, yesterday, ordered re-negotiation of the N789 billion fine slammed on South African telecoms company, MTN, by Nigeria Communications Commission, NCC.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) will tomorrow March 10, 2016 arraign Abumere Joseph Osagie, a Deputy Director, Regional Tax Office of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), and his accomplice, Jamila Ojora on a two count charge bordering on criminal conspiracy and receipt of gratification.

One of the counts read, “Abumere Joseph Osagie and Jamila Ojora on or about January 27, 2016 in Abuja within the jurisdiction of this Honourable court, corruptly accepted the sum of N5,000,000.00 ( five million naira) from one Senator Ahmed Datti as a gift for having done a tax assessment for Baze University”.

Osagie and Ojora had on January 27, 2016 allegedly approached Senator Datti, the Chancellor of Baze University, Abuja and gave him a tax assessment of N20,029, 496.00 through a letter of intent, which he paid.

“However, when he requested for the assessment certificate, they refused to oblige him. Instead they allegedly demanded for N5 million gratification. All pleas by him fell on deaf ears.

President Muhammadu Buhari is to attend the Nuclear Security Summit in Washington DC in three weeks’ time.

A preliminary list of delegates shows that he will be accompanied to the three-day event, to be hosted by President Barak Obama between March 30 and April 1, by three governors and six Ministers.

Also on the preliminary list prepared by the presidency are 11 principal officers and a 23-member Advance team that includes a medical doctor, Protocol officers, State House media, bodyguards and a cook.

Major General Yusha'u Mahmood Abubakar died in a car accident on the Maiduguri-Damaturu highway on Tuesday, according to Army spokesman SK Usman.

The late Major General was accompanied by Brigadier General Muhammed Aliyu who was injured in the accident. The cause of the accident is unknown at the time of publication.

The two military officials were on official assignment when their car crashed a few kilometers away from Benisheik, along the Maiduguri-Kano highway, while en-route to Yobe State.

According to the military source, Mr. Abubakar was received by Mr. Aliyu at Maiduguri International Airport. The generals were on their way to a special military force graduation in Buni Yadi, Yobe State.

Rick Ross is showing the world his generous side. The busy rapper took some time off from promoting his Wingstop franchises and other business endeavors to team up with Habitat for Humanity to assist a Georgia veteran.

Rozay headed down south on Saturday (March 5) to take part in Southern Crescent Habitat for Humanity’s first service project in Fayette County. While there, he spoke with the organization’s CEO, Kem Kimbrough, Fayetteville’s Mayor Ed Johnson, and families in the region, and even got his hands dirty by painting the veteran’s home.

According to a press release, the Mastermind rapper stayed at the location for two hours and seriously discussed his future involvement with the organization.

Janet Jackson has canceled all of the European tour dates for her Unbreakable world tour, Billboard reports.

The legendary entertainer, who previously postponed the dates to undergo throat surgery, will still be holding her U.S. tour dates. The Euro-dates were set to begin on March 30 in Birmingham.

Ticketmaster sent an email out to European ticket holders, which reads, “It is not possible to confirm new dates at the present time so we are refunding all ticket holders,” according to Spin. The European tour dates have since been removed from the site.

Jackson herself has not sent out an official statement regarding the news.

Meek Mill really wants to get back to work. Just one week into his 90-day house arrest sentence for a probation violation, the MMG rapper has filed an appeal through his lawyer Joe Tacopina to change his sentence in order to record music, TMZ reported Monday (Mar. 7).

The site reads that Meek doesn’t have an issue with the length of the sentence, but the fact that he isn’t allowed to make music while serving it- especially since he has a recording studio in his Philly home.

Due to the rules of his sentencing, the earliest Meek would be able to release a song would be June 2016 if the appeal is denied.

Bas’ new album Too Hight to Riot is steadily picking up ground as one of 2016’s stand out rap projects so far.

Switzerland will soon return $321m confiscated from Sani Abacha’s clan to the Nigerian government.

The Swiss head of the Department of Foreign Affairs, Didier Burkhalter, will be meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari tomorrow in Abuja to discuss the restitution of these funds.

A coalition of Nigerian and Swiss civil society organizations have called on the governments of both countries to ensure that the returned assets are used to benefit the Nigerian population and that the process of restitution is as transparent as possible.

“These funds must be allocated to projects of public interest, and use a transparent process involving Swiss and Nigerian NGOs to do so,” the coalition stated in its letter addressed to the concerned authorities.

Although most fans will be sad to say goodbye to Kobe Bryant’s 20-year career after this year’s season, fans can now remember the Lakers icon through his endless highlights as well as his new collaboration.

Kobe Bryant and Stance have teamed up to release a three-sock collection to commemorate Bryant’s legendary career.

The collection, which is comprised of three styles, will pay homage to Bryant’s skillful, record-breaking moves on the court and his personal aesthetic. The collection will also recognize the creative designs from his #KB20 campaign.

The three female students of Babington Macaulay Junior Seminary, Ikorodu, Lagos state, who were kidnapped from their hostel on Monday have been rescued.

The circumstances of their freedom are still hazy, but they were said to have been rescued at Igbo Okuta area of Ikorodu. TheCable understands that the girls have been taken to an undisclosed hospital for medical examination.

The girls were rescued by the security agencies in an operation that started in the wee hours of Sunday. A senior police officer told TheCable: “We were certain that the girls would be rescued alive because we had good intelligence on the operations of these gangsters. We had them cornered, and it was just a matter of time for them to reach a cul-de-sac.”

Former First Lady, Nancy Reagan, wife of the United States 40th President Ronald Reagan, passed away in her Los Angeles home at the age of 94. Reagan died of congestive heart failure, according to her spokesperson, Joanne Drake.

Before joining her husband in the White House, Reagan enjoyed a ten-year acting career in the 1940s and 50s. After remarrying to Ronald Reagan in 1952, who was then the President of the Screen Actors Guild, the two embarked on a journey from Hollywood to the White House.

The two stayed in office from 1981 until 1989. After the First Family stepped down, Ronald and Nancy Reagan stayed together until he passed away in 2004.

While Ronald Reagan undoubtedly made his mark as Head of State, making major decisions during the Cold War and domestic policies, the former First Lady also formed campaigns that fought for feminism and for drug awareness. She is most recognized for her “Just Say No!” campaign, which advocated for drug awareness and her fashion sense that was criticized for its luxurious style.

With O.J. Simpson’s controversial murder trial of 1994 depicted on the small screen for FX’s 10-part series, American Crime Story: The People V. O.J. Simpson, the former pro-footballer has re-entered America’s living room once again. Now, Simpson’s acquitted trial just received a possible game-changing discovery.

According to the Los Angeles Times, the LAPD confirmed an investigation into a knife that was found buried on Simpson’s Brentwood estate.

The suspected murder weapon was brought to the attention of authorities a few months ago by a retired officer who notified detectives of the knife’s being. It’s still unclear when exactly the knife was uncovered and the timeline of events that occurred after, until now.

President Muhammadu Buhari told a host of "Talk To Al Jazeera" during his recent visit to Qatar that his administration doesn't plan to dialogue with activists in the Southeast of Nigeria fighting to restore the sovereign state of Biafra.

During a 26-minute long interview, Buhari discussed a wide variety of topics including oil prices, devaluation of Nigeria currency and his regime's promise to end Boko Haram insurgency.
