Some call it the Buhari bounce. Others describe it as the Buhari effect. Yet some others say it is the Buhari aura. One thing is, however, crystal clear. Things have not been the same in the past 100 days in Nigeria, since Muhammadu Buhari assumed the presidency. A new sheriff has truly come to town.

Exactly 100 days ago, he climbed the podium at Eagle Square in Abuja and got inaugurated as president, 30 years after he had been toppled from power as military head of state. He promised to belong to nobody, and to belong to everybody. It is a pledge that still resonates loudly today, and will surely echo for a long time to come.

On a day like this, you would expect a presidential spokesman to chronicle the achievements of his principal in office. He has turned stone to bread, slain the dragon, and climbed Mount Olympus in ten seconds. But that is not what I want to do. There are some intangible, almost imperceptible achievements, but which run very deep, and are quite fundamental. Those are the ones I'll rather talk of, while we leave the tangibles till some other day.

The shortest man to ever live has died. Chandra Bahadur Dangi, who was 21.5 inches tall according to Guinness World Records, died in an American Samoa hospital Thursday. He was 75 years old.

The Nepal native was suffering from pneumonia when he was admitted to the hospital last week, the Kathmandu Post reported.

“GWR would like to express its sincere and heartfelt condolences to Mr. Dangi’s family in this difficult time,” Guinness World Records said in a statement. “He will be remembered forever as an iconic and extraordinary record holder.”

Dangi earned his title in 2012 when Guinness officials heard rumors of a man in Nepal who was two inches shorter than the current record holder, a 23.5-inch man in the Philippines.

Details of President Muhammadu Buhari's were made public on Thursday after he submitted documentation to the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB).

In a statement issued on Thursday, spokesman Garba Shehu noted that the president's assets, valued at less than N30 million at the time of his inauguration on May 29, reflected his "austere and Spartan lifestyle," especially as a former Head of State.

His money was held in a single bank account and he had no registered company or foreign accounts to his name.

"In addition to the homes in Daura, he has farms, an orchard and a ranch. The total number of his holdings in the farm include 270 heads of cattle, 25 sheep, five horses, a variety of birds and a number of economic trees," the statement said.

President Buhari also had shares in Berger Paints, Union Bank and Skye Bank.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has filed a preliminary objection to the suit filed by a former Minister of Aviation, Princess Stella Oduah, seeking court’s protection from probe. Oduah had, on August 26, 2015, obtained an interim injunction barring the EFCC from taking any action against her as regards the purchase of two armored BMW cars at a cost of N160m in 2013 by the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority, under her watch.

Justice Mohammed Yunusa of a Federal High Court in Lagos granted the order following an ex parte application by Oduah’s lawyer, Mr. R.A. Oluyede.

Also restrained by the order are the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offenses Commission; the Attorney General of the Federation and the Inspector General of Police.

A judge in Mexico has legalized the use of medical marijuana for an ailing 8-year-old girl. Third District Judge for Administrative Matters Martin Santos allowed the family of Graciela Elizalde Benavides to use cannabidiol, a substance banned by the General Law of Health of Mexico.

According to El Nuevo Diario, The medicine will strictly be used to help her cope with Lennox-Gastaut syndrome, a disease that causes around 400 daily episodes of seizure, even while you sleep.

“It’s a breakthrough in our country because marijuana has been a complicated topic in our country,” the family’s lawyer Fabián Aguinaco said.

The medication is Benavides’ last resort after pursuing other drastic options such as split-brain surgery. Since the operation didn’t treat the disease, Aguinaco insists that if the government ruled against the medicine the young girl needs, they would be “violating various human rights” by allowing her to live in agony.

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of Mr. Rahman Adeola Ipaye as Deputy Chief of Staff and Mr. Laolu Akande as Senior Special Assistant (Media & Publicity) in the Presidency.

The two new appointees will work in the Office of the Vice President. Mr. Ipaye is the immediate past Attorney General of Lagos State.

He studied at the University of Lagos where he graduated with B.A. (Hons) Degree (History) in 1984; LL.B. Hons (1988) and LL.M. (1991). He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria and the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators respectively.

Before his appointment as Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Ipaye was employed as a lecturer in the Department of Commercial and Industrial Law, University of Lagos (1992 to 2001); Special Assistant (Legal Matters) to the Governor of Lagos State (2001 to 2007); and Special Adviser (Taxation and Revenue) to the Governor of Lagos State and member of the State Executive Council (2007 to 2011).

Antonio Oladeinde Fernandez, oil magnate, diplomat and Permanent Representative of Central African Republic to the United Nations (UN) is dead.

The billionaire businessman died yesterday in a Brussels, Belgium hospital after a brief illness, a source close to the family said. He was 79.

Details of the death remained hazy last night. One of Africa’s richest men, the late Fernandez was born in Lagos into the Fernandez family which originated from Brazil.

He was adviser to the Angolan Government on Economic Matters. He held this position for two years until his appointment as Deputy Permanent Representative of Mozambique to the United Nations in 1984.He ran an oil company known as Petro Inett – which obtained a 50 per cent share with South African-based Energy Africa Limited in a deal with the state oil company for exploration rights in a 4,700 km2 area of Angola’s coast in 1996.In 1992, he was appointed as Special Adviser to the President of Mozambique on International Economic Matters, a position he held for three years.

Kanye West’s announcement of his 2020 presidential campaign has garnered responses from Internet comedians, students of the book of Yeezus, and even The White House.

Now, a current presidential hopeful has also revealed that he is aware of West’s eyeing of the Oval Office. In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Donald Trump – the Republican everyone loves to hate – said that he was tuning in to the rapper/producer’s Video Vanguard Award acceptance speech.

“I was actually watching, I saw him [announce his candidacy on the VMAs], and I said, ‘That’s very interesting. I wonder who gave him that idea?'” he said.

Surprisingly, Trump spoke highly of West, noting that Yeezy has said “very nice” and “extremely positive things” about him in the past. The controversial (and popular) candidate also expressed the hope to run against West, pending he wins, or remains relentless in his quest to become President of the United States.

#BBB NEWS| Sambo Dasuki Arraigned In Court, Granted Bail On Self-Recognition [PHOTOS]

Embattled former National Security Adviser Sambo Dasuki today appeared at the Federal High Court in Abuja for a one-count charge of being in possession of firearms without a license.

Mr. Dasuki, who arrived in court at about 8:25 AM dressed in a light blue caftan, appeared before Justice Adeniyi Ademola, the court’s vacation judge.

The prosecution counsel, Mohammed Diri, told the court that the accused was charged with the unlawful possession of firearms without a licence, which violates section 27(I)(a)(I) of the Firearms Act Cap F28 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004. Mr. Dasuki pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Al-Shabab says it has killed scores of African Union soldiers in a recent attack this week. Residents say the Somali armed group control the AMISOM base in Janaale, but the African Union insists its troops are in control.

The attacks occurred in Janaale in the lower Shabelle province early on Tuesday. An exact victim count is not presently available.

The assault involved the use of a car bomb that breached the defenses at an African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) base in Janaale, residents in the area reported. Heavily armed fighters then stormed the base.

It was alleged by witnesses that they counted in excess of 20 bodies at the site, according to AFP, but the number was estimated by al-Shabab to be approximately 50.

Kanye West’s alleged presidential bid has been the talk of the Internet since he announced his plans to run during his MTV Video Vanguard Award acceptance speech on Sunday night (Aug. 30).

Eyeing a campaign in 2020, the outspoken rapper/producer/everything else ended his passionate address with a bomb and a mic drop.

Liverpool FC has secured a deal with Nigerian Taiwo Awoniyi after signs of interest were also shown by AS Monaco and FC Porto, according to The Daily Mail.

Will Smith stars in the upcoming movie titled Concussion as Dr. Bennet Omalu, the man who discovered chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), a neurological disease caused by multiple head injuries and/or concussions.

In the two-minute Concussion trailer, Smith relays Dr. Omalu’s relentlessness towards NFL officials after he discovers CTE. With 10 outfit changes, a whole heap of drug references to kick things off, and a fair few clangers throughout - including a hugely embarrassing nip-slip - it was an explosive ceremony from start to finish.

Artist Natalie Nakles created this hauntingly cool design by using markers and a pen to make it look as though her hand's bones were on display.

The striking design appears to show bones and tendons exposed. But it's all part of an elaborate optical illusion using only the musician and artist's own careful craft.

There’s a reason why most of your favorite songs start with “Mustard on the beat.” DJ Mustard was among the honorees at the this year’s BMI R&B/Hip-Hop Awards, and he snatched up a total of 12 awards.

Racking up credits on nine of the “35 BMI Most Performed Songs Of The Year” – including Tinashe’s “2 On,” Jeremih’s “Don’t Tell ‘Em” and Big Sean’s “I Don’t F**k With You,” Mustard also clenched a first-time-ever win at the ceremony. Members of the cabinet of ex-President Goodluck Jonathan have demanded that the Muhammadu Buhari administration give due credit to their former boss for numerous achievements.

In a statement distributed today, and signed by Abubakar O. Suleiman, a former Minister of National Planning, on behalf of ministers who served under the Jonathan administration, the ex-ministers stated that had “watched with increasing alarm and concern the concerted effort by the Buhari administration and members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to condemn, ridicule and undermine the efforts of that administration, in addition to impugning the integrity of its individual members.”

The statement accused the Buhari administration of vilifying the Jonathan in a way that was “ill-intentioned, unduly partisan, and in bad faith.”

According to Mr. Suleiman, the current government and ruling party had portrayed each and every member of the Jonathan administration “as corrupt and irresponsible, in an orchestrated and vicious trial by media [that] has created a lynch mentality that discredits our honest contributions to the growth and development of our beloved nation.”

Looks like Instagram is no place for Jay Z. Mr. Carter made headlines last night (Aug. 29) when he did the unthinkable and created an Instagram page.

The ongoing probe of the immediate past administration by President Muhammadu Buhari is to beam its searchlight on the alleged purchase of three mobile stages, costing $6.9m, by former President Goodluck Jonathan and two of his officials, a Presidency source has said.

According to a document, which was obtained from the Presidency on Saturday, the deal, which is now a subject of investigation, was allegedly carried out by Jonathan; his Chief Security Officer, Mr. Gordon Obuah; and former Minister of Petroleum, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke.

The fund was said to have been withdrawn from one of the numerous accounts of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation.

The $6.9m (about N1.37bn) was said to have been withdrawn for the purpose of buying three pieces of 40-feet mobile stages for use by Jonathan during mass public speaking events.

The move, according to SUNDAY PUNCH’s investigations, is part of a renewed effort by the agency to boost tax revenue to fund the programmes of the Federal Government.

Statistics obtained from the service revealed that out of the 450,000 companies in Nigeria, only 125,000, representing 27.7 per cent, pay any form of taxes.

Going by this figure, it implies that about 325,000 companies are evading tax, thus denying the government huge revenue annually.

In the 2015 fiscal year, the FIRS was given a revenue generation target of N4.5tn by the Federal Government and it has so far generated N2.667tn.

The King of Pop would have turned 57 and music superstar Jay Z took the time to pay his respects by allegedly joining Instagram.

Posting a snapshot of the pair shaking hands and hugging, the 99 Problems star said: "Happy Birthday to the King! This may be my first and last post."

In a mere eleven hours the pictures has gathered an astounding 35.1 thousand likes with fans joining in with tributes.

He was a very dedicated and hardworking man who represented the country with sterling patriotism and passion.

Ambassador Adefuye was much respected in the diplomatic community for his strong intellect and deep knowledge of Nigeria and Africa.

I interacted closely with him in the course of my job as Minister of Finance and I saw firsthand his dedication to the task of helping diplomats and investors understand Nigeria and appreciate the country's many positives. He participated robustly in many sessions with investors especially on infrastructure and agriculture financing.
