#BBB NEWS| Saraki To Face Trial As Code Of Conduct Tribunal Affirms Jurisdiction

The Code of Conduct Tribunal(CCT) today in Abuja dismissed and threw out an application brought by embattled Senate President Bukola Saraki challenging its jurisdiction to try him.

Mr. Saraki's lead defense lawyer, Kanu Agabi, had filed a motion seeking to stop and quash the charges of false assets declaration against the senator. 

Mr. Agabi had repackaged some of the issues  earlier decided on by the Supreme Court, which had upheld the propriety of Mr. Saraki's trial. The senator's lawyer sought to use some technical legal maneuvers to tie the hand of the tribunal.

In his submission, Mr. Agabi argued that the failure of the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) to invite Mr. Saraki to confront him with the breaches and non-compliance in his assets declaration form was fatal to the validity of the charges.

President Muhammadu Buhari announced that 27 states in Nigeria are having difficulties paying their workers’ salaries due to the country's economic woes.

He made the remark while speaking at the second National Executive Committee meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abuja on Thursday.

“On the economy, the fall of oil prices after Nigeria made itself a mono economy is a disaster. I wonder why people could not believe that in Nigeria, about 27 out of the 36 states have difficulties in paying basic salaries of their workers,” the president stated.

Mr. Buhari added that Nigeria has failed to protect its economy from the volatility of the oil market.

“If from 1999 to at least 2003, oil was above $100 a barrel and an export of about two million barrels per day, how come Nigeria failed to make some arrangements to cushion the effect of a probably volatile oil market?”

Mr. Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama headed to Buenos Aires, Argentina Wednesday, where they attended the state dinner and ended up hitting the tango with professional dancers.

A US president hasn’t traveled to Argentina since 2005 and despite trying to decline, President Obama made it all the more memorable with the Tango.

According to Live Nation via NME, various obligations with the Toronto native’s music placed a roadblock in fulfilling his tour commitment.

There were minimal details to the occurrence, just a 90-second video of Williams and the junior high school student exchanging words before he placed the comedian in a headlock.

Now, a full video popped up on YouTube which shows another angle on what exactly happened. At the beginning of the video, parents watch on as their kids play a game of soccer, alongside Williams. All looks good and well with Williams playing in the match-up, which intrigued one of the spectators as they’re heard saying “he got the skills!”

The suspected cameraman then said something that no one thought would happen. “I’m surprised he ain’t fighting nobody,” he said, when a person next to him replied, “Who do you think he’s going to fight out here?” Welp, it looks like they spoke a little too soon.

The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Ibe Kachikwu, on Wednesday said despite the efforts being put in place by the Federal Government, fuel queues might not be completely eliminated until about two months.

He said since he was not a magician, the fuel queues cannot be eliminated with a magic wand.

The minister, however, said he and members of his team were working hard to resolve the fuel crisis.

Kachikwu, who is also the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, spoke with State House correspondents shortly after he led a joint delegation of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria and the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers to meet with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

He said with the reality on the ground, it was by sheer magic that the country has the amount of products it currently has in the stations.

Embattled Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, yesterday, begged Justice Abdul Kafarati of the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja to go ahead and deliver judgement on the suit challenging his trial before the Code of Conduct Tribunal, CCT.

This came on a day the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, distanced itself from the decision of Justice Kafarati to decline ruling in the fundamental human rights enforcement case brought before him by Senate President.

Justice Kafarati had on Tuesday, disqualified himself from the matter which was originally scheduled for judgement, owing to bribery allegation levelled against him by two online media outlets. However, Saraki, yesterday, said he was dissatisfied that the judge was blackmailed by his enemies to hands off the suit that was ripe for judgement.

The teacher in the middle of the sexual harassment saga at Queen’s College, Yaba, Mr Olaseni Oshifala, has been detained by the police.

A member of the staff of the school said the embattled biology teacher accused of sexually molesting a yet-to-be-identified JSS2 pupil, reported at the police station on Monday but was not allowed to go home.

That was not the first time he had been to the police over the case.

He had previously visited the police to complain about the “false accusations” against him.

He said he was being targeted by people jealous of his success in the school.

Meanwhile, a protest planned by the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN), the union to which teachers of the college belong for Wednesday, was called off.

“The thing about doing biopics is that the younger generation doesn’t really know who they’re coming to see like when Jamie [Foxx] did Ray Charles I’m pretty sure there was a big percentage of the fans who didn’t really know who Ray Charles was – really the younger audience – so they were really just coming to watch Jamie Foxx perform,” Epps told People.

You must be prepared for some discomfiture.

In its pristine cultural background in the Yoruba world, “iyalaya” is an obscenity hurled at your opponent in a brawl to display contempt for his or her maternal lineage. It is usually accompanied by the insulting palm and five-finger flash we call “waka” in the face of your opponent. The consequence, as you all know, is often a bloody nose and an unscheduled trip to the hospital. However, as cultures evolve across generations, new meanings emerge and old words or expressions and are sent on new errands by the human imagination.

Thus, in its contemporary usage in Nigerian popular culture, “iyalaya anybody” speaks directly to the spirit and theme of Verdant Zeal’s 5th Innovention Series: “The Next Big Thing: Identifying Africa’s Untapped Potential.” Within this broad thematic framing around the African continent, I was further mandated by the organizers of this event to try and think through the particular issue of a path for Nigerian innovation in the 21st century.

At least 31 people have been killed in explosions at an airport and metro station in Brussels.

At 8 am local time, two blasts went off at Zaventem airport, killing 11 and injuring 81, according to the Belgian health minister.

An hour after the airport explosions, the Maelbeek metro station was attacked, killing at least 20 and injuring over 100.

However, the mayor of Brussels, Yvan Mayeur, said it is “too early to say exactly what the number of victims will be.”

At least one explosion at the airport was caused by a suicide attack, according to latest reports.

“BEST DAY OF MY LIFE! I MET THE LOML [love of my life],” Megan wrote. “He was so sweet & down to earth. Gave me and my family some OVO clothing. BEST DAY EVER. NO LIE.”

Drake and Rihanna’s latest smash has sat comfortably atop the Billboard Hot 100 for four weeks straight. The steamy two-part visuals have also rounded up over 150 million views on Vevo. While the rest of us are waiting on these two to officially become an item, Drake and Rihanna just seem to be living life.
