#BBB NEWS| Ice Cube Teams Up With Disney For ‘Oliver Twist’ Musical

Out of all the places Ice Cube’s career could take him, we never thought the CubeVision producer would be venturing into musicals. Ice Cube and Disney Studios are reportedly teaming up to create a modern-day musical of Charles Dickens’ Oliver Twist.

Think of it as a fusion of Carmen: A Hip Hopera and Hamilton (hopefully more Hamilton than the former). Ice Cube will also be working with Hamilton director Tommy Kail, Jeff Kwatinetz, and Marc Platt, the seasoned producer who was behind Broadway’s Wicked.

The adapted musical will fuse all genres of music including hip hop, according to Billboard. Ice Cube and Kwatinetz are also penning a narrative for the new story.

The original tale of Oliver Twist tells the story of an orphan boy who transitions from a life as a child laborer to working under Fagin, a leader of a gang of London pick-pocketers. Disney originally adapted the story into an animated movie in 1998, Oliver and Company, which chronicled an orphan kitten navigating through the big city with a pack of mischievous, stray dogs.

In addition to writing the screenplay, Ice Cube will play Fagin in the musical come showtime. Oliver Twist the musical has not been given an official release date.
