Cube stopped by The Wendy Williams Show Thursday (January 14) shortly after the nominations were announced, and in essence let the snub roll off his back.
“I’m not pissed, I’m not surprised. It’s the Oscars, they do what they do,” the 45-year-old rap veteran said. “The people love the movie and the people supported the movie.”
The NWA biopic, which was also produced by Dr. Dre and Eazy-E’s widow, received aBest Original Screenplay nominations. The F. Gary Gray directed film, which debuted last August, smashed box office records earning $200 million million worldwide as well as landing at No. 1.
Cube, who stopped by the show to promote his new film Ride Along 2 with funnyman Kevin Hart, talked about NWA being inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, but also noted had the group not received the honor, it wouldn’t have diminished NWA’s importance.
“It is nice to be recognized, but N.W.A is anti-establishment so we’re used to people trying to dismiss what we gotta say, used to the industry looking down on us,” Cube said. “We were the black sheeps of the industry and we used to it. If we didn’t get nominated, that would be familiar territory.”
