The 70-year-old met with Trump Sunday (Nov. 20) at the Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, N.J, where the two spoke about business. According to Johnson, he described the meeting as productive, and said Trump will offer “business solutions to social problems.”
The news of Johnson’s plea to the black community on behalf of Trump may come as a shock, as Trump’s campaign has repeatedly and publicly used racist, sexist and xenophobic language. Johnson, who endorsed Hillary Clinton, said Trump’s business savvy maybe of use for the black community.
“Trump is a business guy, and I think he’s going to tilt towards finding [a] way to use fiscal policy … to move the economy forward,” he said. “Let’s give him a shot. Let’s give him the benefit of the doubt; see if we can find common ground.”
