#BBB NEWS| Drake Breaks Michael Jackson’s Record For Most AMA Nominations

Love it or hate it, there’s no denying that Drake had a stellar 2016. The Views musician is up for 13 American Music Award nominations, breaking Michael Jackson’s 32-year record for the most nominations for an artist in a single year (he had 11 nominations in 1984).

Drizzy is up for categories such as Artist of the Year, Favorite Male Artist, Favorite Album, Favorite Rap Artist, Favorite Rap Song and Favorite R&B song. If he wins in any category, it will be the first American Music Award of his career.

Rihanna is the most nominated female artist this year, with seven nominations including Artist of the Year, Collaboration of the Year (with Drake for “Work”) and Favorite Female Artist for both Pop/Rock and Soul/R&B. Beyonce, Bryson Tiller and The Weeknd are also multiple nominees this year.

How are the nominees selected? The lucky musicians are chosen “based on key fan interactions as reflected in Billboard Magazine and on Billboard.com, including album and digital song sales, radio airplay, streaming, social activity and touring.” Billboard, Nielsen Music and Next Big Sound track the measurements.

Voting for the American Music Awards opens today. Check out the nominees and vote here. The winners will be announced live on Nov. 20 at 8 p.m. EST on ABC.
