However, celebrity makeup artist Sir John has been mastering the art of foundation-matching for decades.
The guru behind the flawless faces of Beyoncé, Gabrielle Union, Joan Smalls and more recently shared with InStyle his secret to foundation-matching for his clients for darker complexions
“The first step is to know your undertones. Do you have a peach, orange, or olive undertone? They’re all completely different dynamics,” Sir John told InStyle. John’s go-to technique for color-matching foundation for women with dark skin tones is to actually start be applying foundation around their hairline.
“The sun naturally makes the skin warmer and deeper around the hairline. If you have a good match around your hairline and it blends seamlessly into that area, it’s going to give you a really smooth veil of color for your complexion everywhere else.”
And for a flawless foundation application, the makeup artist loves to use the Artis Oval 7 Brush to give his clients definition skin.
