Now, an accuser is suing the 78-year-old for defamation after he called her claims of abuse “unsubstantiated, fantastical stories” last year, BET reports.
Kristina Ruehli’s allegations of sexual assault at Cosby’s hands first gained media attention in 2005 when she came forward to support a fellow accuser’s abuse suit against the television star.
According to Ruehli, she was working as a secretary at a talent agency in 1965 when Cosby invited her to his home for a party.
The New Hampshire woman claims that after she arrived at the actor’s empty residence, he gave her two drinks and she quickly passed out. When she regained consciousness, Ruehli, who was 22 at the time, alleged that she was naked with Cosby’s privates exposed, the New York Post reports.
Nine years after her initial 2005 admission, Ruehli resurfaced again in October of 2014 as one of an alarming number of women who claimed that the Philadelphia native sexually abused them.
Before a performance in Australia the next month, Cosby, who was notoriously silent about the claims at the time, said, “I know people are tired of me not saying anything, but a guy doesn’t have to answer to innuendos. People should fact-check. People shouldn’t have to go through that and shouldn’t answer to innuendos.”
Now Ruehli, a 72-year-old grandmother of 8, has filed legal documents that claim the fallen entertainer dragged her name through the mud and attacked her honesty following her most recent admission.
She is seeking an unspecified amount in damages.
