The motion picture is currently in third place where it joins the company of Peter Ramsey’s 2012 release of Rise of the Guardians with $306 million and the John Singleton-directed 2 Fast 2 Furious which earned $236 million worldwide in 2003.
Keenen Ivory Wayans’ Scary Movie (2000) and the Tim Story-directed Fantastic Four (2005) round out the top five with $157 million and $154 million, respectively.
The film, which features O’Shea Jackson Jr. as his father, Ice Cube, took and held onto the box office’s No. 1 spot for three weeks with $60 million of its revenue coming from the movie’s opening weekend. Straight Outta Compton continued to financially dominate as it earned a total of $161 million over the course of its domestic run and nearly $39 million internationally.
The biopic, which was released in August of this year, chronicles Ice Cube, Dr. Dre and Eazy-E’s rise to fame and the trials and tribulations that they experienced when they reached the top as the legendary rap group N.W.A.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, four international regions have yet to release the movie which means that the film’s international revenue is only going to skyrocket.
