#BBB NEWS| Fifty-Six Years After Her Death, Billie Holiday Will Perform At The Apollo Theater As A Hologram

Billie Holiday, who’s fragile, yet uniquely emotional filled voice which has been heralded as one of the best in jazz history, will return to the Apollo stage 56 years after her passing.

The New York Times reports, the Philadelphia born entertainer, real name Eleanora Fagan, will appear in concert for a special engagement via hologram technology.

“Billie is going to be able to talk about the history of the Apollo,” said Jonelle Procope, the Apollo president. “She can take questions from the audience in an interesting way. She can sing some songs.”

The Apollo is home to the singer, who made her debut at 19 years old and performed more than 30 times throughout her career, which made her an obvious first choice for the hologram technology.

Holiday, who was given the nickname Lady Day, endured a rough childhood due to her mother’s absence and suffered rape and took to prostitution to support herself as a teen in Harlem.

After achieving success due to the recording of some of her signature hits including “Strange Fruit” and “God Bless The Child” Holiday’s drug and alcohol abuse along with her relationship with abusive men led to her deteriorating health and ultimately her death in 1959.

No word on the actual date Billie Holiday will return.
