In an interview with Pitchfork, Ocean’s longtime producer Malay, who was an instrumental figure in his revered project Channel Orange, shared that the 28-year-old is hard at work with his forthcoming album, but it’ll be released on Ocean’s own time.
“I always tell people: When he’s ready, the world is gonna get it,” he states. “It could be tomorrow… well not tomorrow but maybe a month [laughs].”
Nonetheless, Malay shared that Ocean is burning the midnight oil to create something that’ll “surprise” listeners. “We’ve all been working hard. He’s been working super hard. I feel like he’s working harder than he’s ever worked in his life,” he said. “I’m excited for everyone to hear it. I think people are going to be pleasantly surprised, for sure.”
