The film, which will be narrated by Academy-Award winner Denzel Washington, will make its debut at the Toronto International Film Festival.
This is the second documentary about the jazz icon, the first, which has been in production for a few years by long-time Spike Lee editor Sam Pollard, “A Love Supreme: A Portrait of John Coltrane in 4 Parts.”
Although there’s no official trailer for the doc, Shadow and Act reports the film will be comprised of Washington reciting Coltrane’s words along with interviews from fellow saxophonist Sonny Rollins, author and professor Cornell West and even commentary from former president Bill Clinton.
Chasing Trane: The John Coltrane Documentary, directed by John Scheinfeld, will premiere Sept. 8.
