Heller, 75, died Friday (Sept. 2) after reportedly suffering a heart attack and crashing his car. According to TMZ, lawyer Mickey Shapiro says Heller’s health took a hit because of the way he was portrayed in the film.
Shapiro asserts that Heller, who was diabetic, became distraught and lost sleep over the way he was portrayed in Straight Outta Compton.
“Jerry Heller would still be alive today, were it not for that movie,” said Shapiro.
Heller sued filmmakers after Straight Outta Compton debuted last year. He argued that the film maliciously misrepresented him, and while much of the case was thrown out, a judge ruled that portions of the suit could move forward.
