#BBB NEWS| Laurence Fishburne Set To Play Alex Haley In ‘Roots’ Remake [PHOTOS]

Laurence Fishburne will play Alex Haley in the remake of the 1977 miniseries, Roots: The Saga of an American Family.

Roots tells the story of Alex Haley’s ancestor Kunta Kinte and his family’s trials and tribulations, while being enslaved.

As previously reported LeVar Burton and producer Will Packer will be producing the remake of the acclaimed mini series Roots that is in the works. Rumors of a remake first started back in November 2014, but it looks like with the help of The History Channel, it is happening. The History channel, A&E and Lifetime are set to air the 2016 movie simultaneously.

James Earl Jones played Haley in the original ABC miniseries, while LeVar Burton portrayed the iconic role of Kunta Kinte. Haley died in 1992 at the age of 70. Fishburne, currently co-stars as Earl “Pops” Johnson on the ABC sitcom “Black-ish”.
