#BBB NEWS| Senate President Bukola Saraki Commits To Zero Tolerance For Corruption

Senate President Bukola Saraki declared during a meeting with anti-corruption agencies that he is committed to “a zero tolerance” policy on corruption in the National Assembly.

These statements were made during a July 6th meeting with the Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offense Commission (ICPC), Mr. Ekpo Nta, and representatives from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), and the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB).

The meeting was held at the National Assembly and was called to brief Senate President Saraki and other Senators on the activities of the anti-corruption agencies.

A top Saraki aide repeated these commitments during a phone interview; he said “Senator Saraki is committed to having a zero tolerance for all corruption in the National Assembly.” He added, “he [Senator Saraki] will work with the Buhari administration to fight corruption.”

Senator Saraki told the anti-corruption agencies that, “the message we want you to take away today is that the 8th Senate is ready to work with you. The 8th Senate is not going to provide any safe haven for anybody. The 8th Senate wants to work very closely with Mr. President on this very issue and I am sure with the political will, both on the part of the executive and the legislative and the agencies…[will] bring corruption to a level that as a country [that] we can be proud of.”

Senator Saraki’s comments come days after SaharaReporters revealed exclusive documents detailing how he defrauded the Societe Generale Bank of Nigeria (SGBN) while employed as a Director. Bukola Saraki worked with his relatives, including his sister Gbemi Saraki, to make numerous unauthorized withdrawals in excess of 510,000 Naira.
