The nominees were revealed Monday (September 14) with Drake and Big Sean leading with 12 and 10 nominations respectively. Future’s mixtapes Monster, Beast Mode and 56 Nights all earned the Future Hive leader nods for the “Best Mixtape” category, while Wale’s The Album About Nothing, will go up against Cole’s 2014 Forest Hills Drive, K.Dot’s To Pimp A Butterfly, Nicki Minaj’s The PinkPrint and Drake’s If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late.
The category which will cause the most debate is “Lyricist of The Year.” Kendrick Lamar, J.Cole, Big Sean, Drake and Nicki Minaj will all battle it out for the coveted award.
For the second year in a row, Drake has snagged the most BET Hip Hop Awards nominations. For the third time, Snoop Dogg will be hosting the festivities.
“With the huge success of the first two shows, I’m excited to host my third BET ‘Hip Hop Awards’ this year,” Snoop Dogg said in a press release. “We’re gonna do it big with more surprises and more performances—you’re not gonna wanna miss this!”
The show will be recorded on Friday October 9 Oct. 9 at the Boisfeuillet Jones Atlanta Civic Center in Atlanta, and then airs on Oct. 13.
Last year, Drizzy only ended up with two awards. (DJ Mustard had the most with four.) Check out all the nominees, and let us know who you think the big winner is going to be.
