#BBB NEWS| Ice Cube Reveals That He’s Had The Concept Of ‘Straight Outta Compton’ In Mind For Nearly 20 Years [PHOTO]

Ice Cube had a whirlwind of a year, and he’s reflecting on one of its standout moments thanks to the premiere of the Straight Outta Compton film.

The N.W.A biopic hit theaters in the summer, and has received multiple accolades and praise since its debut.

Now, the Cali native reveals that the F. Gary Gray-directed reel has been an idea for nearly 20 years. During an interview with KCRW’s The Business show, Cube said he’s had the urge to make the film, but always held back from bringing it to life. “I just never thought all the pieces — It was just too many,” he said. “A lot of moving parts. A lot of politics involved. A lot of people on the legal side and illegal side of things, so it just seemed like an impossible task.”

Fast forward to the present, and Straight Outta Compton has grossed over $200 million worldwide. It has also received recognition from the Screen Actors Guild, named Best Picture by the African-American Film Critics Association, and labeled as a possible contender for 2016’s Oscars.

Taking to Instagram, the Barbershop 3 actor counted his blessings after seeing the success of the groundbreaking movie. “A dream come true project with a dream come true outcome,” he wrote. “Doing over 200 million worldwide at the box office. Now we’re hearing whispers of awards this season.”
