Cosby was charged with three counts of aggravated indecent assault following a January 2004 case that involved the alleged sexual assault and drugging of former Temple University employee, Andrea Constand.
During a press conference held earlier, First Assistant District Attorney Kevin Steele said, “We examined all the evidence and we made this determination because it was the right thing to do.”
If Cosby is convicted, he’ll face up to ten years in jail. Recently, he filed a countersuit for defamation against seven women in Massachusetts who also said Cosby drugged and sexually assaulted them.
This is the first criminal case brought against the comedian/actor since over 50 women came forward to shed light on these occurrences. Cosby’s next court appearance is set for Jan. 14.
