Hosted by the First Lady herself Michelle Obama, the event is apart of the 2015 Beating the Odds Summit that will take place this Thursday (July 23), hosting over 130 college-bound students in the nation’s capital.
The “Ambition” rapper will perform for the rising college stars and clutch a spot on an E! News panel with Mrs. Obama, U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan and co-founder of college student network 1vyG, Manuel Contreras. The students to attend stem from all different walks of life, including urban, impoverished, foster and homeless backgrounds.
According to AllHipHop, Wale says that working alongside FLOTUS one the project is one of his highest honors. “I believe that the youth are the first step in creating a better country, so to be involved in a program that aims to enrich their lives is truly the greatest reward,” the D.C.-bred MMG labeler said. “Having grown up in Washington, D.C., being invited to the White House by the First Lady is a dream come true. Thank you to Mrs. Obama and her entire staff for this opportunity.”
The summit will also give students the opportunity to join in on educational workshops and other panels led by organizations such as the U.S. Department of Education and Jaime Casp of Google.
According to its website, Reach Higher is another effort to improve America’s educational objectives. It is centered around President Obama’s “North Star” goal, which aims for the country to see the highest proportion of college graduates in the world by 2020.
