The terrorist group arrested and convicted the men of 'high treason' before executing them in a public square in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul , according to ARA News .
A source told the news agency they had deserted their posts amid clashes between ISIS and Kurdish Peshmerga forces.
Media activist, Abdullah al-Mallah, said: "The militants were found guilty for evacuating a post at the battlefront, where clashes took place between them and the Kurdish Peshmerga forces.
"The Sharia Court of Mosul decided to behead them in front of hundreds of ISIS members in order to prevent others from taking such a move without the permission of their military leadership."
A source in the Baaj district, where the executions took place, added that six of the militants were Syrian nationals and the rest were Western jihadists.
It's not the first time the terrorist organisation has publicly executed its own fighters to warn people to obey orders.
Last month 73 militants were killed for escaping battles with with the Kurdish Peshmerga forces in Shingal (Sinjar) district in northern Iraq.
