#BBB NEWS| Art Exhibit Featuring Replica Of Mike Brown Crime Scene Opens In Chicago [PHOTOS]

A controversial art exhibit has opened at Chicago’s Gallery Guichard that features a replica of 18-year-old Michael Brown after he was shot and killed by Officer Darren Wilson in Ferguson, Mo.

The remake of the tragic scene of Brown lying face-down, surrounded by police tape serves as the centerpiece of a work titled “Confronting Truths: Wake Up!”

The artist behind the exhibition, Ti-Rock Moore, is based in New Orleans according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Most of Moore’s work centers around issues of race, with past works referencing white privilege, gentrification and sociopolitical inequality. She previously created another piece based on Brown titled “Black Angle,” featuring an upside-down, black, winged American flag with a portrait of Brown in the center:

Moore’s inclusion of the Brown crime scene in her latest exhibit has received split reception online thus far, with some naysayers believing the image to be offensive. “Confronting Truths: Wake Up!” also includes a black Statue of Liberty and a noose hanging from a neon sign, the Post-Dispatch reports.

The exhibition is open until Aug. 10, the date following the one-year anniversary of Brown’s death. Moore wrote the following of her latest work:

“My work is conceptual and reactive, and has been described as courageous and avant-garde. Honestly and frankly I explore white privilege through my acute awareness of the unearned advantage my white skin holds.”
