Hafsat Fawehinmi-Oni, one of the daughters of the late radical human rights and constitutional lawyer, Gani Fawehinmi, has opened a hospital in Agbara Estate of Ogun State.

The hospital's opening was timed to match the 78th posthumous birthday of Chief Gani Fawehinmi.

Hafsat said the hospital will offer healthcare services at a rate affordable for everyone, irrespective of their class, age or other demographic categories.

She said her late father willed the land to her and she had decided on her part to use the land to build a hospital in fulfillment of one of the wishes she remembers her father had for her.

The Gani Fawehinmi Memorial Hospital was opened today with free medical checks for everyone in attendance.

Troops of the 3 Battalion of 22 Task Force Brigade arrested four Boko Haram Ameers, or kingpins, in Rann, Kala-Balge Local Government Area (LGA), Borno State on Friday.

According to military sources, locals tipped off the troops on the terrorists’ whereabouts. The troops subsequently conducted a thorough search of the area and arrested the four kingpins.

The arrested terrorists include Umara Mai Gyaran Rediyo, a radio technician, Umaru Mai Nama, a cattle herding and sales specialist, Alifa Makinta, a specialist in stealing foodstuffs, and Balu Jugudum, a jewelry thief.

It looks like another rap collective will be immortalized on the silver screen. Following the global success of N.W.A’s Straight Outta Compton film, Cash Money Records will reportedly follow its blueprint and debut their own biopic in the near future.

According to XXL, Birdman and Slim, co-owners of the longstanding label, are planning to pack in told and untold stories of the musical imprint, and Straight Outta Compton served as a catalyst to get serious about penning and producing the motion picture.

“[Look at the] Straight Outta Compton [movie]. I think that Dr. Dre and Ice Cube are geniuses for what they have done and accomplished,” Birdman said during an appearance at Brooklyn Law School on Tuesday (Apr. 19). “For them to do that [movie] and to make it trend-setting, they opened doors for us, and I think that what we have is way more special because we’re in modern times.”

“Last night was one of the most special nights of my life,” the 47-year-old told the magazine. “To be standing on stage with the people that saved my life in the audience was an overwhelming experience. Affen of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court, sitting in Maitama, Abuja on an eight-count charge bordering on obtaining money by false pretence to the tune of $2.3m.

According to the complainants, Prince Ejikeme Ubanagum Mgbemena and Frank Ifaluyi Egbon, the suspect allegedly assured them that he would invest the money under the Citizenship and Immigration Services Employment Based Fifth Preference (EB-5).

The complainants further alleged that the suspect promised to provide American Green Card for members of their families below 18 years.

The western Ethiopian region of Gambella was attacked by gunmen from neighboring South Sudan on Friday, leaving 208 dead and 108 missing.

According to Ethiopian government spokesman Getachew Reda, the military has killed 60 of the attackers and is currently searching for the 108 abductees.

“Ethiopian Defense Forces are taking measures. They are closing in on the attackers,” he said.

The assailants were reportedly Murle people from South Sudan’s Jonglei and Upper Nile regions. The group has carried out similar, but smaller, attacks in the past.

After viewing the items that the precocious student produced by himself, Obama decided to share his expertise with his science adviser John Holdren, The Baltimore Sun reports.

In just a few months, the cast of the upcoming Tupac Shakur biopic has finished filming, putting the project in post-production mode.

According to Global Grind, the cast wrapped up the final scenes in Las Vegas earlier this week. Producer LT Hutton shared a few videos of Demetrius Shipp Jr., who portrays the late rapper, riding around with Dominic L. Santana (Suge Knight) on Instagram. The rapper was shot on the Vegas strip following his attendance to a Mike Tyson fight on Sept. 7, 1996.

Directed by Benny Boom, the story will highlight Shakur’s upbringing to his rise in hip-hop and Hollywood. Boom promised fans the biopic will highlight his family’s connections to the Black Panther party and his relationship with his mother Afeni Shakur.

Speaking with Vibe in March, actor Jamie Hector (who plays the rapper’s stepfather Mutulu Shakur) discussed Danai Gurira’s portrayal of Shakur in the film.

Durant and Westbrook presented him with a book that included handwritten, personal notes from Thunder players detailing what Bryant meant to them.

The book presentation took place in a private hallway pregame, with only Durant, Westbrook, Bryant and a photographer present.

“It meant the world,” Durant said of facing Bryant for the last time in an on-court Fox Sports Oklahoma interview after the game. “It was the first time that I’ve gone through this with a guy like that, leaving the game. So many people love him for what he’s done for our game, and I’m one of those guys.”

Snoop Dogg is pissed. In a series of expletive-laced videos early Tuesday (April 12), the legendary rapper took to Instagram to blast Arnold Schwarzenegger for permitting the release of Esteban Nunez, a killer whose father he closely worked with during his tenure as governor, Los Angeles Times reports.

Nunez, the son of former Assembly Speaker Fabian Nunez, was sentenced to 16 years in prison for stabbing a college student to death in 2010.

On Schwarzenegger’s last day as governor of California in 2011, he shortened Nunez’s sentence by 10 years. After receiving credit for good behavior, the 27-year-old was released on Sunday (April 10) following less than six years behind bars.

Upon learning of Nunez’s new freedom, Snoop was none too pleased and hit the ‘Gram to dig into the politician for not only commuting Nunez’s release, but also for allowing the 2005 execution of infamous Crips leader Stanley “Tookie” Williams.

Fans eagerly awaiting Marvel’s release of the Black Panther have another reason to look forward to the movie. According to Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige, not only is Creed’s Ryan Coogler directing the motion picture, but the 29-year-old is also co-writing the film’s screenplay.

In an interview with Collider, Feige updated fans on the status of the film.
“We have a number of writers on it including Ryan Coogler, who is also directing,” he said.

The long-awaited movie, which Ava DuVernay was rumored to direct last year, is currently in its early stages as Coogler is in the process of drafting the script. Still, Feige said that more announcements in regards to the movie’s production will be coming soon.

Selling 94k units this week, TLOP tops the charts of the Billboard 200, becoming the first album ever to top the chart with the majority of its units being generated by streaming equivalent albums. (Only 28k of that number were through traditional sales.) Looks like there really was a method to his madness, huh? Congrats, Ye!

Just days ago, video footage of a Texas cop body-slamming 12-year-old middle school student Janissa Valdez was shared on YouTube.

The clip, with over 2 million views now, shows the San Antonio Independent School District (SAISD) police officer with his arms tightly wrapped around the girl, before he lifts her in the air and throws her face down onto concrete floor. Student bystanders yell “oh” in unison upon impact.

“Janissa, you ok?” one witness asked. “She landed on her face!”

The officer has since been placed on administrative leave and is currently under investigation for using excessive force. Meanwhile,Valdez was suspended for two days after the incident.

“We will not tolerate excessive force in this district,” said SAISD spokesperson Leslie Price on GMA, “but I can also say that we need to find out all the details as to what occurred. The video is very concerning.”

Jelili Atiku, a Nigerian multimedia artist whose performances are concerned with issues of human rights and justice, was today honored by the Netherlands with the 2015 Prince Claus award.

Embattled Senate President Bukola Saraki on Friday said he would not yield to growing calls from Nigerians that he should step down amid growing corruption scandals.

Late last year, news broke that legendary rap group N.W.A will be inducted into the esteemed Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. But with the ceremony less than 24 hours away, one of the collective’s members, Ice Cube, shared some disappointing news.

In an interview with The New York Times, the actor/director explained the reason why the MCs won’t showcase their game-changing tracks on stage.

“I guess we really didn’t feel like we were supported enough to do the best show we could put on,” he said. “We wanted to do it on a whole other level, and that just couldn’t happen. But we’re totally honored, humbled and appreciative to the Hall for even just considering us, inducting us and inviting us.”
N.W.A joins a list of fellow rappers to be inducted into the longstanding register including Public Enemy, and Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five. But this feat didn’t sit well with KISS bassist/singer Gene Simmons who stated the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame should only be reserved for those who play the guitar or sing. To that statement, Cube disagreed with Simmons, and explained what rock ‘n’ roll truly is.

It looks like Chris Brown is returning to the music after a few weeks of charting controversial waters. The Virginia native is still keeping alive the opening track on his Royalty album, “Back To Sleep” by enlisting the guest services of some of R&B’s heartthrob crooners.

Surprising fans on social media, Brown gifted the second rendition of the oozy tune, leaving ample room for Trey Songz, August Alsina, and Miguel to showcase their dirty talk.

Previously, Brown linked up with R&B royalty Usher and pop sensation Zayn Malik to lay their vocals on wax, which has found a home on radio stations across the nation. Now, fans of the tune can add another lustful arrangement to their playlists.

#BBB NEWS| Corruption Trial Of Senate President Saraki Commences As CCT Rejects Request For Adjournment

The corruption trial of Nigeria’s embattled Senate President, Bukola Saraki, is finally underway in Abuja after he lost another effort to have it adjourned and the drama prolonged.

Lawyers to Mr. Saraki, led by Paul Usoro, arrived at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) armed with a motion for adjournment, claiming they had again filed an appeal to stop the trial, a game they have played for many months.

Federal prosecutor Rotimi Jacobs resisted the effort, spiritedly telling the court he was ready for trial.  He repeatedly told the court that the so-called appeal was nothing but another ruse, pointing out that the paperwork submitted by Mr. Saraki's lawyer shows that a proper appeal had not been filed because the Supreme Court had already ruled on the matters being appealed.

After both sides argued on points of law, a member of the tribunal was so alarmed at the antics of Saraki's lawyers that he wondered aloud why Nigeria is still stuck at the tactics being crudely employed by Saraki at the trial.

The latest video depicting Boko Haram comes about two weeks after another video emerged on March 24th, reportedly of Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau speaking about Islam. However, analysts questioned the authenticity and timing of the video and cautioned the public from overstating its importance.

#BBB NEWS| Alison-Madueke Returns To UK Court Over Seized Cash

Former Minister of Petroleum Resources Mrs Diezani Alison-Madueke will today return to the Westminster Magistrate’s Court in London to answer for money laundering and bribery allegations.

She was first arraigned in the court last October.

Mrs Alison-Madueke was arrested along with four others by the United Kingdom’s National Crime Agency (NCA). She was granted bail  and told to come back today for a decision to be taken on the £27,000 seized cash and other charges made against her.

The court ruled in October 2015 that the cash can be held for six months before she is arraigned after investigations.

The court also granted the order that she should remain in London while investigations last.

The NCA, which leads the UK law enforcement’s fight to cut serious and organised crime, is working in league with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in the probe of the former minister.

In a petition signed by CSNAC chairman Olanrewaju Suraju and forwarded to the acting chairman of the anti-graft commission, Ibrahim Magu, the group said the alleged non-remittance of generated revenue is a great disservice to the nation and an act of economic sabotage.

The coalition said it took its cue from the February 26, 2016, report by The Cable, where it was reported that about 600 government agencies under-remitted generated revenues to the Federal Government.

According to the report, these agencies include the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), the Nigeria Television Authority (NTA), the National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), the Nigeria Ports Authority (NPA), and others.

The Chairman, Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption, Prof. Itse Sagay, has faulted a former Minister of National Planning, Dr. Abubakar Suleiman, regarding the culpability of former President Goodluck Jonathan in the current anti-corruption cases.

Suleiman, who is the spokesperson for the Peoples Democratic Party Ministers’ Forum, had said in aSunday PUNCH interview that Jonathan could not be held liable because no stolen funds had been traced to the ex-president’s personal bank accounts.

The ex-minister had said, “All these issues of corruption under Jonathan happened between March and April last year. It was purely an election issue. Nobody has traced any money to Jonathan’s account up till now, but money was traced to Abacha’s accounts.”

However, Sagay told one of our correspondents during an interview on Sunday that although he could not say if there was a case against Jonathan or not yet, the ex-President could be held liable if it could be established that Jonathan made illegal approvals for funds to be paid into other people’s accounts.

Prominent lawyer, activist, and politician Tunji Braithwaite, died at the age of 82 on Monday morning.

The late statesman spoke out against corruption and canvassed for Nigerian confederalism until his death.

Dr. Braithwaite founded the now-defunct Nigerian Advance Party and petitioned for a new confederal constitution to replace the 1999 constitution, arguing that the 1999 constitution encourages corruption by granting immunity to governors and presidents.

“Governors determine security votes which they do not account for. Since 1999, the military constitution clothes them [governors and presidents] with immunity against being arrested for criminal misdeeds,” he said.

Just when you thought Diddy has dabbled in enough, he continues to prove you wrong. The hip hop mogul is reportedly opening a charter school named Capital Preparatory Harlem Charter School in his hometown of Harlem, New York.

The website for the school reads the school will offer “year-round college preparatory education” for 160 6th through 12th graders beginning in the fall. The deadline to enroll your child in the school is April 1.

#BBB NEWS| Saraki To Face Trial As Code Of Conduct Tribunal Affirms Jurisdiction

The Code of Conduct Tribunal(CCT) today in Abuja dismissed and threw out an application brought by embattled Senate President Bukola Saraki challenging its jurisdiction to try him.

Mr. Saraki's lead defense lawyer, Kanu Agabi, had filed a motion seeking to stop and quash the charges of false assets declaration against the senator. 

Mr. Agabi had repackaged some of the issues  earlier decided on by the Supreme Court, which had upheld the propriety of Mr. Saraki's trial. The senator's lawyer sought to use some technical legal maneuvers to tie the hand of the tribunal.

In his submission, Mr. Agabi argued that the failure of the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) to invite Mr. Saraki to confront him with the breaches and non-compliance in his assets declaration form was fatal to the validity of the charges.

#BBB NEWS| 27 States Struggle To Pay Worker Salaries, According To President Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari announced that 27 states in Nigeria are having difficulties paying their workers’ salaries due to the country's economic woes.

He made the remark while speaking at the second National Executive Committee meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abuja on Thursday.

“On the economy, the fall of oil prices after Nigeria made itself a mono economy is a disaster. I wonder why people could not believe that in Nigeria, about 27 out of the 36 states have difficulties in paying basic salaries of their workers,” the president stated.

Mr. Buhari added that Nigeria has failed to protect its economy from the volatility of the oil market.

“If from 1999 to at least 2003, oil was above $100 a barrel and an export of about two million barrels per day, how come Nigeria failed to make some arrangements to cushion the effect of a probably volatile oil market?”
